samsung-logoSamsung Electronics America Inc. has been hit with a class action lawsuit that accuses it of selling defective wall mounts that fail and cause televisions to fall to the floor.

Plaintiff Cindy Coleman-Anacleto alleges that Samsung has been manufacturing a line of “Ultra Slim” wall mounts that are not visible when they are installed to support flat-panel televisions.

According to the class action lawsuit, Samsung designed the Ultra Slim wall mount to appeal to consumers’ aesthetic preference for televisions that were mounted on the wall without any visible brackets.

These Ultra Slim mounts involve two load-bearing metal disks that are mounted directly onto the wall and two plastic disks connected together by a pre-installed metal cable.

These plastic disks screw onto the back of the television, and the television can then be mounted to the wall by hanging the cable on the wall-mounted metal disks. According to the Samsung class action lawsuit, this system of securing the television to the wall is similar to the way one hangs a picture frame.

Coleman-Anacleto claims that Samsung sells several models of Ultra Slim mounts that are designed to be used with different televisions. According to the Samsung class action lawsuit, the packaging for each Ultra Slim model indicates which Samsung TV are compatible with it. The packaging also reportedly indicates the “Safe Working Load” and “Minimum Breaking Load” of the wall mount.

However, the Samsung Ultra Slim mounts are plagued by a design defect that results in the television falling to the floor, the Samsung class action lawsuit alleges.

“The plastic disks that connect to the metal cable break under the regular pressure of holding a Samsung television of the appropriate weight and size, as stated on the package,” Coleman-Anacleto states in the Samsung class action lawsuit.

After the plastic disk breaks, the metal cable slips out of it and causes the television to fall off the wall, endangering unsuspecting consumers who are nearby, the Samsung class action lawsuit alleges. Children are at particular risk of injury due to falling TVs, Coleman-Anacleto says.

The plaintiff claims she paid $3,200 for a 63-inch plasma Samsung television in 2010, and used an Ultra Slim wall mount to secure it to a wall in her home. In January 2016, her Samsung TV reportedly fell off the wall, causing the screen to shatter. She noticed that one of the plastic disks attached to the back of her TV had broken and caused the metal cable to slip out so that it no longer supported the TV.

According to the Samsung class action lawsuit, Coleman-Anacleto reported the issue to Samsung but the company refused to repair the TV or pay for the full cost of repairing the TV.

By filing the Samsung class action lawsuit, Coleman-Anacleto seeks to represent a Class of consumers who purchased a Samsung Ultra Slim wall mount in California. She wants Samsung to disclose that these wall mounts are prone to failure, posing a safety risk.

She also wants the company to reimburse Class Members for the property damage or injuries they suffered due to wall mount failure, and to repair or replace Class Members’ TVs that were damaged due to the wall mount failure.

Coleman-Anacleto is represented by Eric H. Gibbs, Dylan Hughes and Steve Lopez of Girard Gibbs LLP.

The Samsung Ultra Slim Wall Mount Class Action Lawsuit is Cindy Coleman-Anacleto v. Samsung Electronics America Inc., Case No. 16-cv-294533, in the Superior Court of the State of California for the County of Santa Clara.

My wife purchased a 65 inch 8K TV for me for Christmas of 2021. I used the ultra slim wall mount with the cable that wrapped around the two discs on the wall. Everything was fine until October 8th of 2022 when the TV come crashing to the floor. The plastic disc on the back of the TV broke and the cable pulled through . That’s $3,500 down the drain. Because Samsung said that is an out of warranty item. Any cost to fix or replace would be mine not theirs. Even though, it was Samsung’s wall mount that failed.

Our 60′ plasma TV dangled from the wall during a party at our house. We noticed the same issue that most have indicated on this site. The round plastic part of the mount (which came with the TV) broke. How do I become a part of this or is it too late?

SO HERE IS WHEN THE CIRCUS BEGINS. HE TOOK HIS NOTES AND PICTURES AND DISCUSSED WITH SAMSUNG IN WHICH HE ASSURED US THE PARTS WOULD BE ORDERED AND HE WOULD BE BACK WITHIN 2 WEEKS TO REPAIR. THE FOLLOWING WEEK GOT A CALL AND SAID PARTS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE AND WE WOULD BE GETTING A REPLACEMENT AND SOMEONE FROM SAMSUNG WOULD BE IN CONTACT.
NO RETURN CALL TO VERIFY ABOVE.

WE CALL SAMSUNG AND THIS IS COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME , EXPLAINING EVERYTHING AGAIN UP TO DATE, WITH ABSOLUTELY NO DEFINITIVE RESOLUTION.

TO SPEED THIS COMPLAINT UP I PERSONALLY CALLED EVERY 3 DAYS AND NEVER GOT THE SAME REP FROM SAMSUNG AND ALWAYS HAD TO EXPLAIN MYSELF AND REQUEST FOR A STRAIGHT ANSWER AS WELL COMPENSATION FOR MY $3K INVESTMENT !!

Same deal mine just sounded like a massive explosion in my house mine had also fallen, under inspection exactly the same issue the disc was snapped at the back , tv shattered to pieces and my split system heater floor mounted broken , if one of my kids had of been near they’d have been seriously injured or killed

  5. Rewa Mack says:

My 55” Samsung slim television just fell off the wall. Lots of damage and upon inspection I noticed the plastic disk on the television failed releasing the wire. So pissed right now

  6. Solon Mirville says:

My 46 inch Samsung just fell off the wall and to the floor this morning. I was going to replace the part with the 2 disc and something told me take a look at what actually happen first. After inspecting the 2 plastic disk I noticed that one side had cracked and released the ball at the end of the wire and the other side was stating to crack as well in the same spot. Thats when I decided to google this mount to see if anybody else had this happen and I see that this is a definite defected product that actually came with the TV! Lots of damage everywhere since it fell on my sound system. I need to join this lawsuit as well!

  7. Constance Luciano says:

My 2010 52″ Samsung TV, Model UN55B8000XFXZA just suddenly fell off the wall and crashed to the floor this morning, November 18, 2020, the plastic round pegs attached to the back of the TV broke and it just fell to the floor by itself. The wall mounts are still in place, so it was mounted correctly and firmly. The round pegs attached to the TV were evidently not strong enough to hold the TV over time. This is definitely a design defect and dangerous. I would like to be part of the class action law suit.

  8. Lisa S says:

I will definitely be following this case as tonight my ultra slim mount broke after 11 years. Luckily I noticed in time and saved my tv. I googled and found this site

  9. David B. says:

Finding this site is an eye opener, the previous comment had their TV fall yesterday, mine came crashing down at 5:16am! Same defect, the plastic broke. Unreal! What can we do?

  10. John Seipp says:

Please add me to your class and give me notice of any settlement so I can elect to remain with the class or opt out. My 65” Samsung plasma installed by Best Buy fell off the wall.
