The latest move in a Pyrex class action lawsuit over defective glass includes consumers fighting back against the defendants’ request to reject the suit.
The plaintiffs in the Pyrex class action lawsuit claim that the company’s move to dismiss should be ignored because the manufacturers of defective glass are attempting to shield themselves from liability unfairly.
Consumers in the Pyrex class action argue that the company is trying to use their limited warranty and package warnings to avoid the responsibility they face due to a defective product.
According to the Pyrex class action against Corelle Brands LLC, the company chose to switch to a cheaper glass in 1998. The consumers claim that the change from the borosilicate glass to the soda lime glass put consumers at risk of injuries.
As alleged in the Pyrex class action lawsuit, the soda lime glass can explode during the normal cooking process, an issue that has affected many consumers and caused injuries and unexpected damage.
In response, Corelle argues that the warranty on the product protects failures with consumers.
However, the consumers in the Pyrex class action lawsuit contend that the company is aware of the flaws and possible explosion risk with the glass but that any replacement product carries the same dangers and therefore puts the consumer at risk regardless.
The Pyrex class action says that the number of affected consumers could total in the thousands. All the claims brought against the company argue that the soda lime cookware is defective and poses an injury risk that could have been avoided if the company had not switched to this new glass.
The Pyrex owners also argue that their request for Class certification should remain for now since most courts don’t deny Class certification until after discovery.
The Pyrex class action lawsuit was first filed in June 2018 and more plaintiffs joined the Class to amend that complaint in September.
Corelle filed for a motion to dismiss arguing that the glass can shatter when exposed to sudden temperature changes. The company said this risk is clearly displayed on the cookware’s packaging and that this express disclosure should block the consumers’ claims.
Corelle also argues in the Pyrex class action lawsuit response that several of the consumers in the case had cookware that exceeded the two-year warranty. The company wants those breach of warranty claims thrown out.

Seriously, thought I was under attack.
Set hot pan on the stovetop and BOOM like an IED. Glass and food all over the kitchen. Like my casserole believed 70 happy meals were waiting at that great drive through in the sky for only the most faithful and well cooked. I got pretty scratched up. My dog got glass in his paw. I went out and bought a replacement before I read the studies on cheap glassy pieces of doom they are now.
Had my pyrex sitting on top of oven while the oven was preheating, and it burst causing shards of glass to get all over me and everything exposed in the surrounding area. Had to throw away uncovered food and the worst part was making 2 visits to the ophthamologist to get shards of glass out of my eyes and going to an urgent care to remove shards from my face.
Last night, removed a Pyrex pan from 450 degree oven. As soon as I placed the heated Pyrex on room temperature surface, it immediately shattered in pieces. Had to throw out the food, including any food in the area of the shattering glass.
I had an 8″ square explode on me when I was making cornbread for my husband’s birthday dinner. It had finished baking, and I had set it on the stovetop. I accidentally turned on the burner underneath (which should have just started to overcook the bottom of the cornbread) but the whole pan shattered all over the kitchen. I was lucky that I wasn’t cut or burned by the shards.
Had a 9×13 explode in the oven on Christmas Day 2018 prime rib dinner was ruined from glass shards
No one was injured but it Did make a mess in the kitchen and oven
I set a glass bowl down in the sink and two or so hours later, I started rinsing some dishes with cold water and stepped away, when it exploded.
add me I have always bought these me and my sister who love to bake when several broke we did not think nothing about it just went and bought more

pasta. This happened 2 months ago. very loud explosion
fortunately I didn’t get injured.
Happened to me too! It exploded everywhere and I was stepping on tiny shards of glass for a while. It exploded in kitchen all over food prepared and into sink full of soapy water and way across to dining room even. It almost got me in the face if I had not turned my head and closed my eyes.
