Unexpected pressure cooker disaster reports from consumers describe sudden explosions and defects that caused the device not to work correctly. One pressure cooker disaster was reported in East Hampton, when a fire allegedly occurred and destroyed a banquet facility at St. Clements Castle and Marina in late June 2017. According to the Middletown Press, the pressure cooker explosion reportedly took place during a wedding, with the couple and their guests safely evacuated while firefighters started combating the flames. However, one of the staff members was slightly injured and had to be hospitalized.

According to Fire Marshal Rich Klotzbier, the facility’s staff had been used a gas power pressure cooker to prepare a turkey. The pressure cooker explosion reportedly occurred at some point after the gas-powered cooker was left unattended on an outside porch, where officials believe the water boiled over and caused the pressure cooker disaster.

Pressure cookers work by trapping steam inside a sealed chamber of the device, which increases internal pressure up to 15 pounds per square inch. This causes the internal temperature to increase and quickly cooks the food. “They’re 100 percent in agreement with our finding,” Guest told the Middletown Press.

The banquet hall sustained heavy fire, smoke, and water damage from the reported pressure cooker disaster, with officials having immediate plants to beginning rebuilding the burned side of the banquet hall.
