An Arizona man recently filed a new Roundup Monsanto lawsuit, alleging his many years of exposure to the popular weedkiller led to his diagnosis with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in March 2017.
The plaintiff, Armando M., is a resident of Tucson, Arizona, and claims that he was exposed to Roundup in its liquid form for just over two decades—from 1996 through 2017. Unfortunately, Armando says he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in March 2017. He has since been undergoing treatment for cancer.
According to Armando’s Roundup Monsanto lawsuit, his diagnosis with cancer was a direct result of his exposure to Roundup. However, for the two decades he had been using Roundup, he was never made aware about the health risks of the weedkiller. It wasn’t until after the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) published its evaluation of glyphosate and its link to these risks that Armando first realized the product may have exposed him to the risk of cancer.
Armando filed his Roundup Monsanto lawusit on April 27, 2018 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona. The Roundup Monsanto lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including design defect, failure to warn, negligence, and breach of express and implied warranties. Armando’s wife Edith also filed on one count of loss of consortium.
Basics of Roundup
Glyphosate (the active ingredient of Roundup) has been the most widely used herbicide in America since 2001—and since 2013, it’s been the most widely used worldwide, with hundreds of millions of pounds of the weedkiller used annually.
The Risks of Roundup Exposure
A growing number of plaintiffs, especially farm workers and home gardeners, are filing lawsuits against Monsanto, alleging that they were diagnosed with cancer as a result of exposure to the product and its active ingredient, glyphosate.
Indeed, the Environmental Protection Agency began to suspect a connection between Roundup and cancer since the 1980s. A recent report published in March 2015 by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded that glyphosate is linked with a number of types of cancer.
Because of these risks, several countries have responded by banning the sale of Roundup and other herbicides with the active ingredient glyphosate. Countries that have instituted some kind of glyphosate ban include the Netherlands, France, Bermuda, and Sri Lanka.
Filing a Roundup Monsanto Lawsuit
Lawsuits allege that Monsanto misrepresented the actual safety of its weed killer product, downplaying the risks when it was actually aware of the cancer link.
If you are one of the countless people who use Roundup and have since been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma or another cancer, you may be able to file a Roundup Monsanto lawsuit. While filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by Roundup-related cancer, or bring a loved one back to life, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.
The Roundup Monsanto Lawsuit is Case No. 4:18-cv-00224-JAS, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona.
If you or a loved one developed cancer after using Roundup as a farm worker or home gardener, you may have a legal claim. Legal migrant farm workers may also seek help. Learn more by filling out the form on this page for a FREE case evaluation.
