NuWave Oven Pro Plus Allegedly Subject to Dome CrackingThe NuWave Oven Pro Plus—a counter-top oven that uses a combination of conduction heat, convection heat, and infrared heat to cook food—has allegedly had problems with its clear plastic dome cracking. The NuWave Oven Pro Plus dome, according to the experience of several consumers that have reviewed online, often cracks without significant usage within the first year after purchase.

While the NuWave Oven Pro Plus—like other varieties of the same kitchen appliance—comes with a one year warranty, consumers have complained that the manufacturer gets a solid “F” when it comes to standing behind their product.

Comments have indicated that when purchasers call and attempt to use the warranty to get a replacement dome, they are told that the standard piece is out of stock, back-ordered, or unavailable. They allege they are given the option of waiting, with a very vague timeline for purchasing another oven dome. In fact, consumers report that NuWave customer service representatives push a very clear agenda of up-selling a “new and improved” dome version to disgruntled consumers for extra funds.

The amber dome, which is supposed to be so much better when operating the NuWave Oven Pro Plus, reportedly often turns out to be of no better quality. Consumers say they have also had experiences with this dome cracking with little use or stress, despite promotions from the company to the contrary. The amber dome is said to be durable, which in the opinion of several NuWave Oven Pro Plus purchasers is far from the truth.

NuWave Oven Pro Plus Named in Recent Class Action

A NuWave class action lawsuit filed in May 2018 against NuWave LLC seeks to hold the company liable for its failure to stand behind the warranty of the NuWave Oven Pro and NuWave Oven Pro Plus.

The plaintiff, Elizabeth A. of Illinois, initiated this action after purchasing four different ovens from the company and allegedly having all the domes crack within the first year.

According to her experience with NuWave’s customer service, Elizabeth says she was told she would have to pay fairly high shipping and handling costs to receive a like-for-like replacement dome or upgraded amber dome.

On all four occasions, the like-for-like original clear plastic dome was out-of-stock and was subject to an indefinite waiting period. The amber dome was pushed by customer service representatives and was always available for the NuWave Oven Pro and NuWave Oven Pro Plus for additional cost.

As a result of these repetitive experiences, the Elizabeth filed her lawsuit on behalf of herself and a proposed class of consumers that purchased NuWave Ovens across the U.S. She hopes to regain the purchase price and then some for consumers that had domes crack and had similar experiences trying to get a repair or replacement under the warranty.

Elizabeth accused NuWave LLC of breaching express and implied warranties, violating state consumer protection laws, and Illinois Deceptive Trade Practices Act specifically. She claims the company has enjoyed unjust enrichment at her expense and that of many other consumers.
