Nissan has issued a recall for more than 26,000 vehicles due to a potential safety hazard involving the door latches. The issue stems from an improperly welded door striker, which could lead to the door opening unexpectedly while driving, posing a significant risk to occupants.
The Nissan recall, announced on Jan. 21, affects several models, including the 2025 Altima, Sentra, 2025-2026 Frontier and 2026 Kicks. These vehicles were manufactured between August and September 2025 at Nissan’s facilities in Canton, Mississippi and Aguascalientes, Mexico.
The faulty parts were supplied by MAGNA Winmex in Mexico. According to the recall notice, “the door striker wire loop may have insufficient strength and in certain cases could crack and separate from the plate.”
This defect fails to meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 206 regarding door locks and retention components.
Nissan advises that customers may notice a rattling noise if their vehicle is affected. “If this condition occurs, the door latch may not retain the door as intended while in motion or during a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the vehicle occupants,” the recall notice states.
Nissan to replace door strikers free of charge
The automaker is taking steps to rectify the issue by offering free repairs. Nissan has announced that dealers will replace all door strikers at no cost to the vehicle owners. The repair process is expected to take less than 30 minutes.
Nissan will begin notifying dealers on Jan. 28 and will start contacting affected vehicle owners by March 13.

Nissan says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Currently, Nissan is facing a class action lawsuit alleging Nissan Rogue vehicles have defective rear windshields that can spontaneously explode.
