small brown rabbits with foodManna Pro Products LLC has been hit with a class action lawsuit alleging that the company’s Select Series rabbit food contains corn, despite its “no corn” labeling.

Plaintiff Ashley Hale brings the Manna Pro class action lawsuit forward on behalf of herself and all similarly affected consumers, alleging that Manna Pro Products intentionally misleads its consumers through false advertising.

She says she purchased Manna Pro rabbit feed specifically because it was advertised as containing no corn, which is harmful to rabbits, but upon opening the bag of food, she discovered that it did indeed contain corn.

According to Hale, the bag of Manna Pro rabbit food that she purchased contained so much corn that she was able to pick out at least a half a cup of corn mixed in with the rabbit pellets, though the same bag was labeled as containing “no corn.”

Hale states that she then called customer service, and was “brushed of” by a representative who said that this was an “extremely uncommon occurrence” and that the company has strict product management standards.

The rabbit feed class action lawsuit argues that this occurrence was not “extremely uncommon,” because when Hale posted about the incidence on a national forum for rabbit breeders, at least two other individuals in Hale’s region said they had had the same experience with Manna Pro rabbit feed.

The Manna class action lawsuit argues that the company should have known about the presence of corn in its food and therefore, was intentionally deceiving its customers about the quality and ingredients in its rabbit food. The rabbit feed class action lawsuit states that as far back as 2012, consumers have complained about the presence of corn in “no corn” Manna Pro rabbit feed, and the company made no effort to address the issue.

The class action lawsuit alleges that Manna Pro Products intentionally and systematically misrepresents its rabbit feed in an effort to take advantage of its consumers.

According to the Manna class action, “it is well known by rabbit breeders that corn is very dangerous to feed rabbit. Research has shown that including corn in the feed can increase the risk of a toxic mold, which mimics rabies and can cause death to the animals. It is also an unhealthy grain for these animals to ingest, causing them to put on ‘bad’ fat, and have increased heath issues. For this reason, many breeders and rabbit owners, such as [Hale], avoid any food with corn as an ingredient.”

The Manna Pro Products class action lawsuit claims the company tries to cater to consumers’ strong preference for rabbit food containing no corn, knowing that the vast majority of rabbit owners purchase food specifically because it contains no corn. This was done despite the company’s knowledge that their feed did contain corn. According to the rabbit feed class action lawsuit, this constitutes deception and false advertisement.

Hale is represented by Todd M. Friedman, Meghan E. George, and Adrian R. Bacon of Law Offices of Todd M. Friedman PC.

The Manna Pro Rabbit Feed Class Action Lawsuit is Hale v. Manna Pro Products LLC, Case No. 2:18-cv-00209-KJM-DB, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.

How do we get involved in this lawsuit? I have personally seen kernels of corn in out feed as I pour it into the storage container that we strictly use for rabbit feed. Please help me get involved with this

Just lost one of my rabbits to it, hoping it doesn’t hit the rest of them. I’d be restarting my business and lose several champion buns ?

  3. LAWanna says:

Mine wouldn’t bred on manna pro! I lost to does during this ordeal but I can’t say it was the feed. I’ve changed fed and got 9 does bred and eating great

I have been feeding this feed for 2 years now. I go through about 4 bags a months I have lost so many rabbits to this food and now only realizing what is happening I’m so upset! I put my trust in this company. And thought I was providing a quality food for my rabbits that ultimately has killed so many of them! This is ridiculous and unacceptable!

This explains a lot. I rescue and raise rabbits and have only fed them manna pro They go through 3- 50lb bags every 2 weeks. Needless to say I have invested a lot over the years into feed. Sporadically I lost many at once over the years and did not know what caused it. Same as Jennifer said old and young were hit as well for me. Some of these rabbits were probably bred show rabbits that I paid 150.00 for one Sandy flemish giant, because I did want to get into showing them and her parents both had won many awards. They are still alive and unfortunately I lost her suddenly along with 8 others at once. They aren’t exposed to other rabbits and new ones always are quarantined. So for the life of me I could not understand what happened and was devistated. Now it makes sense. If you are able to add me to the lawsuit please do so. As I am very interested. Not so much for being repaid, I do not expect that, but whatever I can do to help prevent this from happening again, I will do. These poor animals trust their lives to us and I feel due to my poor decisions of trusting this company to reveal ingredients ultimately led to their demise. I am in it for the animals. So please contact me if possible.
