LG oven class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: An LG electric range owner filed a class action lawsuit against LG Electronics USA Inc.
  • Why: The plaintiff claims the company sold electric ranges with a defect that caused fires, property damage and injuries.
  • Where: The LG oven knobs class action lawsuit was filed in New Jersey federal court.

A new class action lawsuit alleges LG Electronics USA Inc. sold electric ranges with a defect that caused fires, property damage and injuries, then tried to fix the issue with a warning sticker.

Plaintiff Erick Adams filed the LG class action lawsuit against the company on March 7 in New Jersey federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.

The lawsuit alleges the front-mounted knobs on the recalled ranges can be activated by accidental contact by humans or pets, posing a fire hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of about 500,000 of the ranges in February due to the fire hazard posed by the front-mounted knobs.

However, by the time the recall was issued, consumers had already made at least 86 reports of unintentional activation of the knobs, and the ranges had been involved in more than 28 fires, some of which resulted in burns, pet deaths and damage exceeding $340,000, the lawsuit alleges.

LG oven class action alleges company failed to remedy the issue

The lawsuit claims LG’s fix for the defect was merely to provide consumers with a warning sticker for the ranges.

This was despite the fact hundreds of thousands of consumers across the country owned the recalled ranges. LG sold the ovens from 2015 through January 2025 on its own website and at retailers like Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot and Lowe’s for between $1,400 and $2,650 each, the lawsuit states.

Adams alleges LG failed to provide any appropriate remedy for the defect in its ranges, and that a full refund would be the proper method of recall.

The plaintiff seeks to represent all persons in the United States who purchased any of the recalled ranges for personal use.

Adams asserts claims for breach of implied warranty and unjust enrichment and seeks certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.

LG Electronics is also facing another class action lawsuit alleging it knowingly sold defective refrigerators with a faulty part that failed to keep them cold.
