LG Dishwasher LED Control Panel Defect Class Action Lawsuit Overview:

  • Who: Mark Wheeler filed a class action lawsuit against LG Electronics USA, Inc.ย
  • Why: Wheeler claims LG knowingly sells some of its QuadWash-enabled dishwashers with defective LED control panels.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.

LG Electronics USA knowingly sells certain dishwashers containing defective LED control panels, a new class action lawsuit alleges.ย

Plaintiff Mark Wheeler claims some of LGโ€™s QuadWash-enabled dishwashers are eventually rendered โ€œinoperableโ€ due to the alleged LED control panel defect.ย

Wheeler claims moisture is able to penetrate the LED control panels and damage the electronic parts within them on account of the defect.ย

The water damage eventually renders the dishwasherโ€™s control panel โ€œunresponsiveโ€ and makes it so that it can no longer be used to โ€œcommence a wash cycle as expected or intended,โ€ the LG class action alleges.ย

Wheeler claims LG has known about the defect since at least 2015 due to receiving consumer complaints but yet has failed to either remedy the issue or disclose it to the public.ย

โ€œAlthough LG has long known, or had reason to know, that Class Dishwashersโ€™ Control Panels are Defective and are unfit for their ordinary and intended purpose and incapable of performing as warranted, LG failed to disclose and actively concealed this material fact from Plaintiffs and the Class,โ€ the LG class action states.ย

LG Class Action Claims Replacement Dishwasher Part Also Likely Fail

Wheeler argues the only way for a consumer to be able to continue using the dishwasher is to replace the control panel with a โ€œnon-defective replacement component,โ€ which will also โ€œlikewise fail shortly after installation.โ€ย

โ€œBecause LG repairs Class Dishwashers using defective Control Panels that are doomed to fail, its warranty offers little in the way of actual relief and fails of its essential purpose,โ€ the LG class action states.ย

Further, Wheeler argues LG adds โ€œinsult to injuryโ€ by claiming the defect does not exist after its one-year โ€œlabor and partsโ€ warranty ends, at which point he says the company declines to offer further coverage.ย

Wheeler claims LG is guilty of breach of express warranty and breach of implied warranty of merchantability and is in violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.ย

Wheeler wants to represent a nationwide class and California subclass of consumers who have purchased one or more of an affected LG QuadWash-enabled dishwasher.ย

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with compensatory and punitive damages for himself and all class members.ย ย

LG agreed to pay $1.5 million last year to resolve claims it sold defective refrigerators that failed to maintain the temperature level necessary to preserve perishables such as food and medicine.ย

Our top panel dishwasher is not working. Tried the diagnostic feature to no avail. Not working. It wouldnโ€™t power on to begin with. After about a week, I tried again. Checked everything, drains, connections, etc and it ran 1 cycle, tried second cycle next day, power came on but couldnโ€™t get any other features/buttons to light up to run it.
    Now nothing
These appliances are 7 years old and have been taken care of since we moved back into our home after losing everything in a 100 year flood

We purchased an LG Dishwasher 7/8/19 the pump assembly failed in March 2022 we replaced the part for $222 it now failed again
September 2023. This has been an expensive dishwasher to keep running. How is it that LG products and parts are defective and they continue to sell them. We also had the Sears Elite dishwasher with an LG compressor which failed. When does it stop, LG just continues to rip off consumers. We will never purchase any Sears or LG products or any appliance with an LG part. Total waste of money!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same issue with the LED control panel, cracked and no longer powers on. What was the outcome of the class action lawsuit on this defective part?

  4. E Cash says:

After reading these comments, I feel fortunate that my dishwasher still runs, alas almost the entire LED panel is dark. We bought it about 3 years ago and had to replace the bottom dish rack holder within the first year, and it was about right after that the lights started to go. Very frustrating.

  5. Scott Lunde says:

Same story here. Had the controls replaced and they have now failed.

  6. R Depalma says:

I have been dealing with the same issues. My repairman replaced the parts. I didnโ€™t try to get them from LG direct as there are no authorized repair people in my area of Nevada. I ordered from Encompass supply. I needed the control panel and a smaller part. The smaller part they sent was the wrong one which I returned for a refund. The second also was the wrong part. My repairman then ordered the part and after he pit everything back together and turned is on it burned out again. I donโ€™t see any mention of the smell of burned parts but when this first occurred I smelled that burned electrical smell and again when he replaced and turned the machine on. I hope they succeed in this class action. I have owned three sets of LG appliances in three home moves and will NEVER by another.

Dishwasher stopped working 2 months past 1 year warranty. Told no longer covered and repair person said not worth 2 trips to diag. And fix. Ended up buying another as Covid had drastically limited supplies. Very disappointed in product and cust. Service no help. Anything I can do now?

  8. Carin Hylton says:

I too purchased a quadwash LG dishwasher- (S/NO 003kwbs10909), just last June. It started beeping & chiming uncontrollably when I pushed the power button & sometimes it would run fine. I tried to get support from LG a year after purchase b4 warranty period was up but their system had technical issues so my ticket was never created. I tried several times to get thru to service over the last few months & finally today I got thru. When they told me Iโ€™d be responsible for labor fees I about flipped & asked for a manager since Iโ€™d previously tried to get this fixed. So now theyโ€™ve granted me a 1 time courtesy repair! I asked what happens when this occurs again, because thereโ€™s got to be a reason it failed, the rep could not answer my question. Iโ€™d like to know more about this class action so if my dishwasher fails again I might have better help!

  9. Michael Hirsch says:

About 3 yes ago I purchased a LG dishwasher. Just over a year from purchase the Control board went bad and had it replaced. Part was covered but had to pay an outrageous labor cost to have it replaced. Now a little over a year since then the panel went bad. I will never buy an LG product again unless it has a 10 warranty covering parts and labor.

    1. Glenda says:

Same thing happen me. The part alone is over 300.00 dollars. Crazy how many people are complaining and LG will not take responsibility.

  10. D KERR says:

We bought a top of the line LG dishwasher just under 2 years now, top control cracked, took quite a while for LG tech to figure out the panel we needed after they tried to install a different model. Now a year later itโ€™s cracked โ€œAGAINโ€ I have a feeling this is a common defect they wonโ€™t admit. Going to see if theyโ€™l replace it again. We do have a โ€œLGโ€ extended warranty. Didnโ€™t get a HD warranty to do customers experiences with that warranty co.

    1. Glenda says:

Same thing happened to me. My daughter was looking for a new dishwasher this weekend, told her avoid LG
