LG Dishwasher LED Control Panel Defect Class Action Lawsuit Overview:

  • Who: Mark Wheeler filed a class action lawsuit against LG Electronics USA, Inc.
  • Why: Wheeler claims LG knowingly sells some of its QuadWash-enabled dishwashers with defective LED control panels.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.

LG Electronics USA knowingly sells certain dishwashers containing defective LED control panels, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Mark Wheeler claims some of LG’s QuadWash-enabled dishwashers are eventually rendered “inoperable” due to the alleged LED control panel defect.

Wheeler claims moisture is able to penetrate the LED control panels and damage the electronic parts within them on account of the defect.

The water damage eventually renders the dishwasher’s control panel “unresponsive” and makes it so that it can no longer be used to “commence a wash cycle as expected or intended,” the LG class action alleges.

Wheeler claims LG has known about the defect since at least 2015 due to receiving consumer complaints but yet has failed to either remedy the issue or disclose it to the public.

“Although LG has long known, or had reason to know, that Class Dishwashers’ Control Panels are Defective and are unfit for their ordinary and intended purpose and incapable of performing as warranted, LG failed to disclose and actively concealed this material fact from Plaintiffs and the Class,” the LG class action states.

LG Class Action Claims Replacement Dishwasher Part Also Likely Fail

Wheeler argues the only way for a consumer to be able to continue using the dishwasher is to replace the control panel with a “non-defective replacement component,” which will also “likewise fail shortly after installation.”

“Because LG repairs Class Dishwashers using defective Control Panels that are doomed to fail, its warranty offers little in the way of actual relief and fails of its essential purpose,” the LG class action states.

Further, Wheeler argues LG adds “insult to injury” by claiming the defect does not exist after its one-year “labor and parts” warranty ends, at which point he says the company declines to offer further coverage.

Wheeler claims LG is guilty of breach of express warranty and breach of implied warranty of merchantability and is in violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act

Wheeler wants to represent a nationwide class and California subclass of consumers who have purchased one or more of an affected LG QuadWash-enabled dishwasher.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with compensatory and punitive damages for himself and all class members.

LG agreed to pay $1.5 million last year to resolve claims it sold defective refrigerators that failed to maintain the temperature level necessary to preserve perishables such as food and medicine.

We have a LDFC2423V dishwasher and the Control Panel just took a crap and only have been using since Nov 2023. Hoping the waranty will cover the repairs. I’ve had dishwashers for 44 years and never had issues like this.
How do I get in on the class action suit?

  2. Tara Thompson says:

We purchased one of these dishwashers and it’s doing the same thing after a few months of ownership. How do we get included in the lawsiut?

In May 2020 the wife and I purchased a LG Dishwasher MoD 7808 SS with the Quad sprayer . From reading the article it describes almost to a T. The same failure of our dishwasher. But I will add that the LED read out was the first to show signs of failure for one leg of the read out stopped working. Now this did not affect the wash cycle at this time. But what fallowed is before complete failure of the unit. It would flash a code that was not readable. The final cycle when complete failure the unit chime was going and just 2 straight bars on the read out. After getting the chime to stop unit will not power up. Another note the plastic cover over the LED read out cracked around 3 1/2 years ago. Cost to repair almost equal to original purchase price of close $1000.00.

Our dishwasher is barely 3 years old. The parts up top have all faded and I have had to call an LG repair man 4 times

We have a LG dishwasher, model # LDFN343LS . The control panel is on the fritz. Lights blinking, wash cycles not completing. This was actually a replacement provided to us through our home warranty company back in Sept of 2022. So LG knowingly was still providing defective inventory to resellers seeing how this problem started well before we ever had our installed.

We have an LG Dishwasher that we purchase not too long ago. There are pieces of the racks that have broke off, rusted through or are bent. The control panel on the front does what it wants to, when it wants to. It will not operate correctly. The machine will run for three (3) hours and nothing is cleaned once the machine stops. Sometimes the detergent door opens and most time not, when it does run and the panel blinks and beeps and stops and starts it sounds like it is going to start running around our kitchen. We bought the complete package of appliances from LG and have noticed that they are not that dependable or user friendly. We want a new dishwasher that actually works that matches the set we purchased. Hopefully, it does not start up when no one is home and burns our home down.

  7. MARY ARRINGTON says:

The dishwasher is just little over a year old. The display light just blinks on and off as if something is shorting out. The panel goes black, the washer continues to wash, then stops and the cycle signal keeps going off and then stops.
Turn on again and the display does all kinds of crazy things. Lights blinking, continuous cycle signal, waste of water every time it tries to cycle on to wash.

  8. MARY ARRINGTON says:

We purchased the LG Quad Washer in May 2023. We just paid over $500 to get it repaired.

  9. Scott Clark says:

Lg dishwasher control panel went out , plumber told us it would cost over $ 600.00 for one panel and that may not fix the problem and it could be the other panel thats bad . He wont know until be he replaces first panel to see if srcond one is bad .

  10. Peggy says:

Same story. Interior light comes on, yet nothing on the control panel will light up. Unplugging or switching breaker does not help. Maybe days or a week later it will light up. Makes since that it has gotten moisture in control panel, and finally dries out enough to work after days or a week or two. SUPER FRUSTRATING ESPECIALLY TO LEARN LG KNEW OF THIS ISSUE LONG AGO.
