On your monthly credit card statement form Kohl’s, you may have a fee listed that is described as a Kohl’s Account Ease fee.
Many consumers may have overlooked this fee and did not question the Kohl’s Account Ease premium that they were being charged.
However, a group of consumers did inquire about this fee and what they found as a result of their questioning led them to file a class action lawsuit against Kohl’s and Capital One.
Allegations in the Kohl’s Account Ease Fee Class Action Lawsuit
Plaintiffs Jennifer Gordon, Valerie Tantlinger, and Jennifer Underwood filed the Kohl’s class action lawsuit alleging that the credit card fees that were assessed on their accounts were deceptively placed.
Kohl’s partners with Capital One to offer the store branded credit card, which saves customers 30% upon enrolling and enables them to get exclusive sale offers throughout the year.
The plaintiffs accused Kohl’s and Capital One of “enrolling consumers into and/or charging consumers for a product with little or no value; and overcharging consumers for payment protection.”
The Payment Protection is set up as a type of insurance policy in case a customer is unable to pay the balance on their credit card in they were laid off from a job, became disabled, were hospitalized, or died. The fee for this service is $1.60 per $100 of monthly balance.
PrivacyGuard is another service that included on the Kohl’s credit card statement of some consumers. The credit card fees for this service are $14.99 a month and the service is intended to protect consumers’ identity through a credit monitoring service.
Together, these charges are listed as “Kohl’s Account Ease” and they are allegedly placed on accounts without prior consent.
The plaintiffs claim in their lawsuit that if the card or services are cancelled, they are still billed for the products or the companies file negative actions on their credit reports.
In response to the proposed class action lawsuit, Kohl’s and Capital One motioned to dismiss the lawsuit, alleging that the lawsuit was filed after the three-year statute of limitations had passed.
The federal judge overseeing the case, however, is allowing the case to continue currently and consumers who have been issued or paid a Kohl’s Account Ease premium without their consent may be eligible to take legal action.

I want to join the lawsuit, but cannot figure out where to sign up with this website.
I’ve asked them to remove it as well but still haven’t removed it. How can we all get involved with the lawsuit.
I’ve been wondering what this account ease was as well….I’ve asked abut it multiple times.
Can someone please contact me about this lawsuit? I’ve been so angry about this Account Ease things for years – I have an email back in April where they said they would remove it from my account – and they NEVER did. I’m so done with this company!
Me too and it seems that the “account ease” prevents my payments from decreasing my balance. For months I have not been able to see a decrease. Now I see that the over payment portion is covering “account ease.”
We have been paying the Kohls account ease fee. I would love to be a part of the lawsuit.
