2007 Jeep LibertyA federal class action lawsuit claims Chrysler Group sold and leased 2002-2007 Jeep Liberties with defective window parts that cannot be repaired.

The defective Jeep Liberty class action lawsuit alleges Chrysler designed, manufactured, sold and leased 2002-2007 Jeep Liberties containing permanently defective Window Regulators that cannot be successfully repaired, despite repeated attempts to do so.

“The defective Window Regulators cause the windows in the Covered Vehicles to bind, stick, tip forward, chatter and fall to the bottom of the door. Often the windows suddenly and loudly fall or drop out of position and down into the inside of the door frames. These failures occur when the windows are in a partially or closed position. The windows also stick in all positions, including closed, partially closed and totally open. In these instances, it is impossible to move the window to open or close it further. These failures occur while the motor is off and while it is running; the failures also occur while the Covered Vehicles are standing still and while the Vehicles are being operated at all speeds,” states the Jeep Liberties class action lawsuit.

“These sudden, loud and crashing failures result in a shocking exposure to weather and debris, putting the driver and passengers, including children, at great risk of danger. Moreover, the unexpected inability to close or open a failed window poses a substantial and unacceptable safety risk for persons and property inside the vehicles. As a result of these defective Regulators, the Covered Vehicles are unfit for the use for which they were intended in that they cannot be driven safely.”

The Jeep Liberty defective window regulator class action lawsuit continues to say that since these vehicles are manufactured, marketed, advertised, sold and leased by Chrysler as “off-road” vehicles, that the defect prevents the exact use for which the Jeep Liberties were intended because the regulators sometimes fail with any jarring or an uneven roadway.

Even after vehicle owners attempt to repair the defective Jeep Liberty window regulators, the class action lawsuit claims the regulators continue to fail and break because Chrysler “merely replaces the defective parts with identical defective parts.”

The Jeep Liberty class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of a proposed class of individuals and entities nationwide who purchased or leased a model year 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty manufactured by Chrysler Group. The class action also includes a state-specific California subclass. It is asking that Chrysler promptly repair and/or replace all defective window regulators for free, award damages and restitution to class members, and provide other relief.

UPDATE: The plaintiff in this case voluntarily dismissed the Jeep Liberty class action lawsuit in February 2011, and later joined a new class action lawsuit filed by lead plaintiff Steven Doyle in April 2013. That case continues with a May 1, 2014 motion by Chrysler to dismiss. Plaintiff lawyers shot back on May 1, urging a federal judge to deny the motion.

Me, too. I have had issues with all of my windows many times over. The parts are now discontinued, and I’m having to pay $800 to get my front driver’s side window fixed as I type.

Just paid another $650 today to have my fifth regulator replaced on my 06 Liberty. Only reason I had it done was it was a front seat passenger window. I no longer fix the backseat windows. What I did was buy these heavy duty orange clip suction cups at Harbor Freight which, after sliding the window up, I adhere to the bottom of the window. Good to keep one of these in your Jeep, because the key is to get the window before it slides down!

      2. Denise says:

Thanks for the information..right now I have an Orange spatula out of my kitchen to keep it from sliding down…it also has been replaced once before..it may be a 2007 but I take care of my Vehicles and my 16 daughter drives it currently.

        1. Kyle Feight says:

I replaced my own with about 60$ worth of after market parts from Amazon haven’t had any problems with it since

      3. Anne Grell says:

Thank you Robert….I was wondering what I was going to do to keep my window up till I can get it fixed. Passenger window just fell a couple of days ago on my 2007 and I was looking for something to shove in there….ended up putting in a wooden shim temporarily.

    2. Sven Aaseby says:

This is our fourth time getting these cheap defective window motors fixed! ? talk about not taking responsibility for thier mistakes.

    3. Bob says:

I ordered parts 9bline. They are better designed and great price.

  2. Sheila says:

nhtsa.gov/recalls is where you can go to check for recalls on your particular vehicle. I’ve found recalls on my 2004 Jeep Liberty that I didn’t know about. Unfortunately I didn’t find them until the recall had expired, so now I check regularly!

  3. Christopher says:

    So are these recalled?

  4. Mary says:

I just purchased a 2007 Jeep Liberty thanking the big brakes were bad so I replaced them a couple of days later my tires were smoking almost cut my car on fire and come to find out the struts or the ball bearings and I’m pretty sure it’s the ball bearings now out on the passenger front side good news knock on wood I’m not having any window problems lol

  5. Mary Jolly says:

Om goodness I just bought a 2007 jeep Liberty thought it was just the rear brakes so I replaced one today they almost burnt down my car something else going on thought it was the struts I’m pretty sure it’s the ball bearings now I have no idea how to fix me

  6. Dave says:

My window clips have broken 8 times in almost 4 years…

  7. Roger Rico says:

2 problems exist in each window. I have replaced two of three that are bad. Now the two front windows tilt forward when going up. That’s an indication that the seat of the window is not rising at a level rate. That in turn puts more pressure and binding on the new regulator causing it to rupture its case and go bad like the originals. Poor design and no correction.

  8. C. Jackson says:

My daughter s 2006 jeep liberty has had issues with the Ball joints separating both left and right one almost put her into oncoming traffic and the other in a ditch cost alot for towing and repairs been nice to have an honest dealer tell you of the recalls on the vehicle when they fix a different one

  9. Mike says:

I got 2007 Jeep Liberty bad ball joints bad windows Knox like crazy got oil hesitant on speed over 50 miles an hour no is any of the recalls I could still go for it so 2007 can I still qualify for the recalls or the class action lawsuit

  10. Jeff Smith says:

Our 2007 Jeep Liberty has had:
Front passenger side window regulators changed twice and failed.
Failed design for gas tank (trailer hitch installed).
Front left ball joint fell apart while driving. Almost went into oncoming traffic. Recall for 2002 – 2006 Jeep Liberty front ball joints defective. Poorly sealed causing water to deteriorate joint identical to our situation but of course is not included for recall being a 2007.
Rear ball joints are being recalled on 2007 with same problem.

    1. pat says:

I have had ball joint problems on my 2007 Jeep Liberty and as we speak am getting my front passenger window fixed for the second time with the regulator and this time Chrysler is not taking care of it so I’m about to go to battle. Did not know others were having ball joint problems
