Iran reportedly supplied several different weapons that hurt and killed our veterans as they fought in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Iran has been recognized as a state sponsor of terrorism. The United States has anti-terrorism laws that allow veterans and their families to seek compensation from Iran and the banks that have disobeyed laws by funding terrorists’ efforts.

HSBC Bank of the United Kingdom, BNP Paribas of France, and Commerzbank of Germany are among the financial institutions that have pled guilty or settled criminal charges and paid fines to the United States. These banks have paid billions of dollars to the U.S. over allegations that they processed transactions that were banned for Iran and other terror-sponsoring countries. The banks allegedly disobeyed the law by enabling Iran to conduct the business of manufacturing IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices), EFPs (Explosively Formed Penetrators), and IRAMS (Improvised Rocket Assisted Munitions).

According to a report published in the British newspaper The Telegraph in 2006, Iran made explosive devices in factories, and these devices were used in Iraq.

Admiral Mike Mullen, who was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2011, said then that weapons in Iraq were sent there by Iran, which was supporting Shiite extremists.

“Iran is very directly supporting extremist Shia groups, which are killing our troops. They (Iran officials) are shipping high-tech weapons in there – RAMs, EFPs – which are killing our people and the forensics prove that,” said Mullen.

IED Attack Lawsuit Holds Conspirators Responsible

The U.S. Congress put Iranian sanctions in place to prevent Iran from sponsoring terrorism and to prevent the country from committing terrorist acts. The sanctions were intended to severely restrain Iran from having the funds necessary to create and deploy weapons.

Iran was able to convince certain banks to skirt the sanctions in exchange for promises of large profits. The United States law enables a victim of a terrorist attacks to file an IED attack lawsuit against conspirators who assisted in making the terrorist attacks possible.

The law states “Any national of the United States injured in his or her person, property, or business by reason of an act of international terrorism, or his or her estate, survivors, or heirs, may sue therefor in any appropriate district court of the United States and shall recover threefold the damages he she sustains and the cost of the suit, including attorney’s fees.” (18 U.S. Code § 2333)

An IED attack lawsuit may be worthwhile if you or a loved one were injured by any of the following:

  • An IED, which uses a detonating mechanism and is often used as a roadside bomb. IEDs were responsible for 63 percent of fatalities from the start of the Iraq War until 2007. IEDs caused 66 percent of fatalities in the Afghanistan War from 2001 through today.
  • An EFP, which can pierce the armor of U.S. tanks and of armored personnel carriers. EFPs were first seen in Iraq in 2004 and were initially used by the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia against Israelis.
  • IRAMS or RAMS are propane tanks filled with explosives and propelled by 107mm rockets. IRAMS launched from the back of a truck would be deployed by a remote controlled device.

If you or a loved one were injured by any terrorist-sponsored weaponry, you could be eligible to participate in an IED attack lawsuit.
