There’s still time to file a claim for the Hustler Hollywood credit card receipt class action settlement.

If you made a purchase at Hustler Hollywood with a debit or credit card between April 18, 2015 and Feb. 26, 2018, and you were given a receipt that displayed more than the last five digits of your card number or the expiration date, you may be eligible to receive money from a class account settlement.

Hustler Hollywood has agreed to pay $750,000 to settle a class action lawsuit that alleged that the company printed unauthorized credit card information on receipts given to consumers as they made a purchase.

Plaintiff Wade Glenn Whitworth Jr. filed the Hustler Hollywood receipt class action lawsuit alleging that HH-Entertainment, the company that owns Hustler Hollywood stores, violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA).

FACTA was enacted in 2003 and requires businesses to follow certain guidelines that protect their customers from potential identity theft. Many of these rules relate to credit card information and are aimed at helping prevent consumers’ card information from exposure and theft.

Identity and credit card theft can occur when a person is able to piece together enough pieces of information about a customer’s payment information and personal information to make a fraudulent purchase or use an account as their own.

Two ways that the FACTA helps prevent this from happening is limiting the amount of credit/debit card information that can be printed on a receipt given to a consumer during a purchase. The FACTA requires that merchants print no more than the last five digits of a credit or debit card number, or the expiration date on a customer copy of a receipt.

After it was enacted, FACTA gave businesses a grace period until 2006 to update their sales processes and technology to adhere to new regulations. However, more than a decade later, consumers still claim that many businesses are found to be in violation of the law, putting consumers at risk for identity theft. Sometimes, it may not be obvious that a printed receipt violates the FACTA.

If you made a purchase from Hustler Hollywood between April 18, 2015 and Feb. 26, 2018, take a close look at the receipt you were given, because you may have a valid claim.

The deadline to file a claim for the Hustler Hollywood credit card receipt class action lawsuit is July 21, 2018. Qualifying consumers must submit a valid and timely Claim Form to receive payment. Learn more about the settlement and how you can submit a claim here.
