Honda class action lawsuitOn May 26, a vibrating defect class action lawsuit was filed against American Honda Motor Co. Inc. by a Honda 2015 CR-V owner, who alleges the automaker failed to inform consumers of a known defect in the Honda CR-V vehicle’s engines and transmissions that causes the car to vibrate while idling and when in drive. This alleged Honda defect causes the CR-V vehicles to vibrate “to the point of nausea,” according to the Honda class action lawsuit filed in California federal court.

Plaintiff Vivian Romaya claims she bought her 2015 Honda CR-V EX-L in February of this year for $30,000, excluding taxes and other charges. Romaya alleges that within just a few days of purchasing the Honda vehicle, she noticed a vibration in the car that ran from the driver’s seat through the plaintiff’s hips and back. According to the vibrating defect class action lawsuit, the vibration was the most noticeable when the Honda vehicle was idling, though the vibrations continued when the plaintiff accelerated at highway speeds.

Romaya claims in this Honda vibrating defect class action lawsuit that the vibrations caused by the defect made her nauseated and physically uncomfortable. The Honda class action lawsuit claims:

“On or about February 20, 2015, Plaintiff brought the vehicle back to Honda of Lisle complaining about the vibration. The dealership staff drove the vehicle and noted the existence of the vibrations reported. The dealership staff told Plaintiff that the problem was the alternator shaft, which they replaced. Replacing the alternator shaft, however, had no impact on the vibrations Plaintiff experienced in her 2015 Honda CR-V EX-L. Plaintiff continued to experience the nauseating and physically uncomfortable vibrations when she drove the vehicle.”

Because the vibrating defect persisted, Romaya returned to the dealership on March 30, at which time the dealership gave her a replacement vehicle to drive while they attempted to fix the vibration defect. She returned less than a month later to pick up her Honda CR-V vehicle, only to discover that the vibration defect had not been remedied.

Romaya claims, “The dealership staff indicated that Honda engineers were aware of the excessive vibration problem throughout the production line of 2015 Honda CR-Vs and were working on a ‘fix’ to the vibration problem  … but currently did not have any solution,” according to the Honda vibrating defect class action lawsuit.

Soon after in April, Romaya requested a refund for her Honda CR-V vehicle, but she was rejected. Instead, the Honda dealership sought to buy her vehicle for only $26,000, over $3,000 less what the plaintiff originally paid for the vehicle just two months prior.

Romaya seeks to represent herself in this Honda vibrating defect class action lawsuit, as well as a Class that includes: “All persons in the United States and its territories who purchased or leased a 2015 Honda CR-V.” This Honda class action lawsuit brings several allegations against the automobile manufacturer, including claims of violating the California Unfair Competition Law, the state’s false advertising law, consumer legal remedies act, breach of express warranty, common law fraud, and negligent misrepresentation.

The vibrating defect class action lawsuit states the plaintiff is seeking the Class certification for the above defined Class, notification to all Class Members about the 2015 Honda CR-V vibrating defect, award of compensatory damages, restitution, and other forms of monetary compensation for Romaya and the Class, payment of attorney’s fees and court costs, and other forms of relief deemed fit by the court.

The Honda Vibrating Defect Class Action Lawsuit is Romaya v. American Honda Motor Co. Inc., Case No. 2:2015cv03938, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

    Hello
WE bought a 2012 certified CRV this past January. We had the same issue with the vibration and i brought it to the dealership 2 times. They even had a honda corproate rep come out and they said they wo uld put new engine mounts on which i knew wouldn’t fix the issue. Of course when i got the car back it still was vibrating only when i was in drive but at a light. Then it started vibrating when we were on the highway driving. The car felt so unsafe with my kids in it. The honda dealership said there was nothing wrong and it’s vibrates because its a 4 cyclinder. What a crock of garbage they gave me. So since they wouldn’t do anything i traded the car in to another dealership and a different manufacturer. I lost over 5k when trading the crv in but i had to do it to make sure my children and wife were safe in the CRV. WHo do i talk to about this class action suite

I have a 2012 crv that I took delivery of in march 2012.I also have the vibration problem between 20 and 30 mph sometimes.I told the service advisor about the problem at the 30K miles service. He said it could be that the Transmission fluid should be changed,Also I am on my THIRD battery with only 35K miles on the crv and 2 years since Honda replaced the battery at 17K miles Went to SAMS and got a Duracell for $112 vs Hondas 2 year battery for $150.!

Same experience here. Bought car at a dealership. Couple weeks later, it starts vibrate like a massage chair. And it also have noise issue under the audio system. I took it back to the dealer 5 time to fix the issue. They not able to fix it, but make it worse. Honda and its dealership sucks. They just took our money away, and then give us bullshit!!

  3. Joel says:

Very similar experience here. Bought car at a dealership in Mass and ended up finding out that it vibrates the next day my wife drive it. Very annoying part is that she wanted a specific color, so they had to drive the car from the other location, meaning the driver had to have known it was vibrating, but did not bother to tell us. As far as a fix is concerned, speaking as an Engineering professor, I can confirm the issue at idle is the RPMs of the engine drop too low. Honda saying the vibration is normal is only true in so far as any engine when running at near stall speed will vibrate! The dumbest part is this is a computer controlled fuel injection engine… A few lines of code changed in the cars ECU would resolve the issue once and for all! Im holding out some hope that Honda has this fix and is waiting for EPA certification (because it will affect as mileage slightly). The more conspiracy minded attitude would be that Honda does not want to fix it because they make money on carbon credits and would loose some of their profits if the fix ends up affecting mileage too much. Good to know a class action suit has been filed.

Joel Do you know how to join the class action suit and how to know its progression? Thanks a lot. Kathy

Can you let me know about class action suit in Massachusetts. I bought my Honda CRV in July and drive it as little as possible because I cannot take physically stand the vibration and is extremely distracting. This car is a lease. I have been back to the dealer once and they acknowledged the problem and said they would notify me when there was a fix. I don,t want to keep this car under any circumstances.

We purchased a 2015 Ex 2wd model in July. We currently have less than 3000 miles on it because we don’t drive it very much because it shakes so bad my wife got sick EVERY TIME we took it out. Something needs to be done about this. There is a temporary fix of turning as many electrical devices on (rear view defroster, lights and a/c at the same time) and POOF the vibration goes away, so the problem CAN be fixed on their end if they really wanted to. Still, that is a serious pain to do every single time you start the car, and shouldn’t need to be done one a BRAND NEW car. I made a video and its pretty embarrassing for a 3 month old car. It shoes the passenger seat violently shaking constantly, and then you it the rear defrost button and the shaking nearly stops within SECONDS, then the defroster gets turned off again and BAM the seat looks like its possessed again.

  5. Lana says:

I bought my Honda CR-V 2015 on August 10. This is a nightmare to driving this car. It vibrates and shaking. My whole body is shaking to the point that I am getting sick. It is very unstable car. Safety is 0. I was very close so many times to hit another car. My car on dealership now. I do not want it back under any conditions. This is my third Honda. What makes me mad that Honda new the vibrating issue and still selling CR-V 2015. It must be on the news and media everywhere to educate people about this issue. But Honda is hiding it.

  6. Phillip says:

I purchased a 2015 CRV-LX noticed vibration exactly one week after driving off the lot. It noticed after I had the window pulled down and shut off the A/C. Vibrates madly but when A/C is on still vibrates but not as violent, when on park no vibration what so ever. I brought it to my dealer three times first time they showed me a video that was released by Honda in April of 2015, the second time they said they couldn’t do anything for me and Honda America is aware of it and are working hard to find the solution. The third and final time I brought it to the dealer they said they can do this update Honda has for high speed resolution obviously this was not my fix. do to the fact I only have an issue on idle. I really hope that the class action really burns Honda out of business. I will never purchase a Honda ever again. Cant wait to invest in a Kia Yeah the Koreans are doing a way better job then the Japanese, Americans and Canadians when it comes to reliable and economical vehicles. Thank God I still own 2006 Kia Sorento over 151,000 miles and doesn’t vibrate violently.. How can the dealers knowing about this issue continue to sell these vehicles without disclosing the issue to potential buyers so they can really see if the issue occurs on the one they are considering buying. Tell me this isn’t sketchy and can you believe no one is out there regulating this where is my tax money going here??

  7. Rebecca says:

My experience with my 2015 Honda CR-V has been a nightmare. I purchased the vehicle in March, and have taken it to the dealership 3 times (each time they have had the car 3-7 days). The car vibrates violently, has almost stalled twice, and has completely stalled once (after a loud bang). Each time I have taken the car in I am told they are Unable to Duplicate the Issue, so therefore are unable to help. The Regional Honda Rep flat out told me that the harmonics of the engine and transmission are designed to vibrate and if i would just watch the video that Honda had released I would understand. **Other issues I have had with this car- average 20mpg, brakes stick, back up camera had a bad spot, and the air conditioning is not cold.** I have asked Honda for a refund, but it has been 2 weeks without a response and they have not returned my calls.

  8. Divya says:

Thanks Romaya! I have been suffering from numb fingers. Nearly failing and missing brake due to vibration. This much vibration can cause long term irreversible defects in body I know because I am a medical professional. The dealership and honda have been really inconsiderate and in fact refuted my claim that car is vibrating to a point where they actually indirectly tried to impose that I was making it up. The whole car vibrates during idling that even mirror and gps stand vibrates. I purchased the vehicle in state of Michigan but I am in Massachusetts now if that affects. In fact one of my clients suggested me to file a class action lawsuit against honda seeking the same, but they suggested to search online if someone has already filed a suit. Please let me know if you need any help

    1. Phillip says:

Divya if your in Massachusetts I am also. I called the Attorney generals office here in Massachusetts and they say they have not gotten enough complaints on this issue. When you have time can you please call the Attorney Generals office and place a complaint please or go to the web site. At this time every and any complaint will help raise eyebrows at the Attorney Generals office. Thanks much…

    2. Kathy Gao says:

We purchased the Honda CR-V 2015 on September 15, 2015. The vibration started after 200 miles. We are seeking to join class action against Honda. Please let us know if there is a class action. Thanks

      1. David Murphy says:

I too have experienced the annoying incredible vibration problem and wish to be part of the class action suit, how can I accomplish that.

  9. Valentin Rodriguez says:

I am very disappointed with this 2015 Honda CR-V vibration it is annoyance. How long is it going to take to fix this matter. I am glad I didn’t buy it but now I am stuck with this vibration for 3 years lease contract. After that no more business with you Honda dealers and stop fouling consumers. I give them a “0” for not helping at all .

  10. Enrique Olmos says:

We purchased a 2015 Honda CR-V i May and with in a few days we found out the vibration issue. This happens after using the car for about 15-30 minutes, so when we test drove it for 3 we never saw this issue. Also the reason we would of never found this issue was because when we drove the car the AC was on and when AC is on or the Head Lights the vibration goes away.
