Generic CoQ10 Supplements May Not Work as Advertised
By Amanda Antell
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an enzyme that helps convert nutrients and calories into energy for the body. It is one of the top-selling supplements in the country. Certain generic manufacturers of CoQ10 supplements, however, are being investigated for deceptively advertising that their product offers better absorption than competing brands.
While the human body naturally produces CoQ10, levels of the coenzyme can decline due to aging, heart disease, use of certain medications like statins, and personal nutritional choice. Replenishing CoQ10 levels can be accomplished through taking supplements and eating the right foods. CoQ10 is naturally found in small amounts in a wide variety of foods, but are particularly high in organ meats such as the heart, liver, and kidney. The enzyme can also be found in beef, soy oil, sardines, mackerel, and peanuts.
Consumers with severe cardiac conditions or seeking to slow the process of their declining CoQ10 levels often resort to dietary supplements to help preserve the enzyme. In fact, CoQ10 is now the fourth most popular dietary supplement in America, losing only to fish oil, multivitamins, and vitamin D. Currently, CoQ10 sales are in the hundreds of millions of dollars annually in in the United States.
Due to the popularity of these supplements, some manufacturers of CoQ10 supplements are turning to deceptive marketing tactics to capture sales. The most commonly used tactic is to claim that their product can be absorbed better than competing CoQ10 supplement brands. Some of these generic CoQ10 supplement products may not have even passed the necessary laboratory tests required to show minimum effectiveness, as required by the FDA.
If you purchased a store-brand or generic CoQ10 supplement claiming to provide better absorption or other benefits when compared to competing, brand-name supplements, you may be eligible to participate in a free CoQ10 Generic Supplement Class Action Lawsuit Investigation. Submit your information now for a free legal review and the chance to recover compensation through a CoQ10 class action settlement.
