Chevrolet Equinox EV recall overview:

  • Who: GM is recalling 7,606 model year 2025 Chevrolet Equinox electric vehicles (EVs) produced between Aug. 13, 2024, and Oct. 16, 2024.
  • Why: The Chevrolet Equinox EVs may not make a sound sufficient to alert pedestrians when the vehicles are approaching.
  • Where: The recall affects consumers nationwide.

GM issued a recall for more than 7,600 model year 2025 Chevrolet Equinox electric vehicles (EVs) over concerns they may not make a sound loud enough to alert pedestrians of their approach.

The recall involves model year 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EVs produced between Aug. 13, 2024, and Oct. 16, 2024.

GM said it determined the recalled Chevrolet Equinox EVs fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards regarding the minimum sound requirements for hybrid and electric vehicles.

“A vehicle that fails to make sufficient sound may result in pedestrians being unaware of an approaching vehicle, increasing the risk of injury,” the recall says.

GM dealers to update software calibration in recalled Chevrolet Equinox EVs

GM said it plans to remedy the issue by having its dealers update the software calibration in the recalled Chevrolet Equinox EVs body control module, at no cost to vehicle owners.

Vehicle owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Jan. 27, 2025. Individuals with more questions about the recall can contact Chevrolet customer service by phone at 1-800-222-1020 or the  National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

The recall is the latest in a string of GM recalls involving its Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Express, GMC Yukon and GMC Savana vehicles, among others.

The recent GM recalls were collectively initiated over concerns involving tailgate unlatching, rear wheels locking up, a software issue and a failure to display a warning light.
