A Superior Court class action lawsuit claims Ford knowingly sold vehicles with defective 6.0-liter diesel engines in 2002 that caused numerous problems.

The Ford engine class action lawsuit states that despite being launched with “great fanfare” in 2002, by the end of its short production life, Ford’s 6.0L Engines had unprecedented repair rates, accounted for approximately 80% of all of Ford’s warranty spending on engines, and forced Ford to assemble a team of approximately 70 engineers to assist Ford’s supplier in identifying and resolving problems.

“Ultimately, Ford sued its engine supplier, Navistar, for $493 million for what it termed ‘exceptionally high repair rates and warranty costs due to quality problems attributable to Navistar,’ including ‘design flaws,’” the class action lawsuit continues.

The defective Ford engine class action lawsuit says Ford documents show that (1) Ford knew about issues regarding the 6.0L Engine even before the engine’s launch; (2) the same core concerns persisted throughout Ford’s production and sale of the 6.0L Engine; (3) Ford never had a “definitive repair action” for these issues; (4) most, if not all of these concerns had a “common cause;” and (5) Ford ultimately adopted a band-aid approach to reduce its “warranty spend,” without addressing the “common causes” of these problems.

The Ford defective 6.0L diesel engine class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all California entities and residents who currently own or lease (or previously owned or leased) a vehicle with a Ford 6.0L diesel engine. It is seeking numerous damages, including:

– Out-of-pocket damages for engine repair/service;
– Deductibles paid when repairs were covered by warranty;
– Towing charges incurred from having incapacitated vehicles towed in for repair;
– Lost profits from the inability to use vehicles when the engine failed, the vehicle being stored at a Ford dealership awaiting repair, or the vehicle being insufficiently reliable to be put into service;
– Cost to overhaul or replace the defective 6.0L Engines;
– Diminution in value of the vehicles due to the defect;
– Decreased trade-in or selling value; and more.

    We have a 2004 Excursion 6.0 and we have been having trouble with it since day one. And now I’m having issues with the acceleration on the truck. Take it to any diesel mechanic and we have to keep doing trial and error which gets costly. I don’t know what made Ford make this change on their trucks but it sure does not compare to their legendary 7.3. Please keep us posted and let us know how we get involved in this lawsuit. It’s kind of an inconvenience when you buy a vehicle to drive yet it’s always in need of repairs.

    Always have been a Ford family and company, We have spent more on 6.0 L engines than we paid for the trucks. Ford tough they are not. Still owe money on the trucks and trying to figure out how to ger rid of these pieces of junk. EGR X 2, 8 injectors,, EGR cooling system x 2 just told not to tow anything before we get another. Please add us to the law suit cant give these trucks away. Ford, you settled with Navistar, you now need to settle up; with all the loyal Ford customers you screwed. Never a Ford again and plan to sell all we have even trucks with no problems. SHAME ON YOU FORD. WE DON’T DO BUSINESS WITH CROOKS

    I have 3 of these E-450 cut a way buses with the 6.0 power stroke in my fleet. We have had most of the expereriences that many of you have had and then some. My first bus was in and out of the shop numerous times and then the engine totally failed at 107,000 miles $15,000 to replace. The second bus with same problems and the engine failed at 105,000 and this one was $14,000 to replace. The third has just reached 49,000 miles and already was in for turbo, injectors and so on. Thes buses are well maintained with a preventive check every 45 days, oil change every 5,000 miles and a NYS State Inspector inspects the bus and approves the paperwork that we did maintain the vehicle as per manufactures recomendations. I move challenged individuals on these vehicles and ford Mortor should be ashamed of the incompetance of the product. I am looking to be a part of a class action should any one need another claiment with great record keeping.
