A Superior Court class action lawsuit claims Ford knowingly sold vehicles with defective 6.0-liter diesel engines in 2002 that caused numerous problems.

The Ford engine class action lawsuit states that despite being launched with “great fanfare” in 2002, by the end of its short production life, Ford’s 6.0L Engines had unprecedented repair rates, accounted for approximately 80% of all of Ford’s warranty spending on engines, and forced Ford to assemble a team of approximately 70 engineers to assist Ford’s supplier in identifying and resolving problems.

“Ultimately, Ford sued its engine supplier, Navistar, for $493 million for what it termed ‘exceptionally high repair rates and warranty costs due to quality problems attributable to Navistar,’ including ‘design flaws,’” the class action lawsuit continues.

The defective Ford engine class action lawsuit says Ford documents show that (1) Ford knew about issues regarding the 6.0L Engine even before the engine’s launch; (2) the same core concerns persisted throughout Ford’s production and sale of the 6.0L Engine; (3) Ford never had a “definitive repair action” for these issues; (4) most, if not all of these concerns had a “common cause;” and (5) Ford ultimately adopted a band-aid approach to reduce its “warranty spend,” without addressing the “common causes” of these problems.

The Ford defective 6.0L diesel engine class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all California entities and residents who currently own or lease (or previously owned or leased) a vehicle with a Ford 6.0L diesel engine. It is seeking numerous damages, including:

– Out-of-pocket damages for engine repair/service;
– Deductibles paid when repairs were covered by warranty;
– Towing charges incurred from having incapacitated vehicles towed in for repair;
– Lost profits from the inability to use vehicles when the engine failed, the vehicle being stored at a Ford dealership awaiting repair, or the vehicle being insufficiently reliable to be put into service;
– Cost to overhaul or replace the defective 6.0L Engines;
– Diminution in value of the vehicles due to the defect;
– Decreased trade-in or selling value; and more.

    Love the truck but hate the problems that keep building up. I have an 06 f250 cc lariat 4wd and first it was an egr cooler replaced it myself then it was a oil cooler I just replaced that parts and labor was around 1700$ now the turbo is trying to stick to have rebuilt is 550$ the fuel pressure regulator is leaking I bought the parts today 65$ if the head gaskets go I’m looking at 3-5000$!! I don’t feel I should be paying for things that ford knew was faulty I’d like to know how I can be reimbursed for things I’ve already put into this truck and if future known problems occur

    I have been rather lucky with my truck so far. I bought a new 2006 F-350 SD, Crew Cab King Ranch Truck with the 6.0 L diesel. The truck is paid off and has 238,000 miles on it. I had to replace all the injectors, oil sensor, thermostat, EGR Valve, EGR Cooler, Oil Cooler and now the FICM needs replacing.

    I do most of my own work on my vehicles, occasionally i take the truck to the dealer but I have always felt shunned by the dealers. They simply won’t admit they produced an inferior product and preyed upon our trust to turn a buck.

    My truck has been fairly reliable, however, when it did go down it was at the most inopportune time and cost me a small fortune, even with me doing the work. Right now my truck has been sitting for over three months as I repair something I find something else wrong…mainly stemming from the EGR Cooler. God only know what else I will find after I buy a new FICM and get the thing started.

    I have purchased 4 new F250/350 trucks from Ford and I will never buy another one once I get rid of this truck. I am reluctant to sell it to anyone because I obviously have more morals than Ford and all their dealerships combined. I am really tired of being taken as a sucker for some major corporation, If there is a class action suit, I would love to get involved. Without the consumer, they have nothing….we need to stick together and make a statement that will resonate not only with Ford but all theses worthless, morally empty conglomerates that this type of business is acceptable. They need to learn that we, the consumer, pays them!

    I have a 04 350 super duty drw> I have had about all of these problems. While under warrenty the egr, oxygen sensor the fuel control module. After warenty. the turbo. egr, oil cooler, base plate leak and several other repairs. Most of these happened while many miles away rom home. All the work was done by the ford dealer. I estimate I have over 10k in repair cost. I would also like to know what is involved I getting into this class action suit. walkingraymond@gmail.com

  6. jay burke says:

    Up around 18k on motor. Lots of work on motor. Besides the motor being a peace of shit the rest of the truck is a tank. All I hear from ford is trade it in .not the answer I am looking for. I like my truck just fine give me a proven power plant and I’ll be content. TKS JKB

  7. Natascha Martin says:

    I am replacing my EGR valve for the 2nd time in a year today and I just replaced the fuel pump regulator. How do I join in on this suit? I have an 06 F250 Super Duty.
