eos-lip-balmLast week, EOS Products LLC announced that it would settle five proposed class action lawsuits that alleged its lip balm products caused consumers to suffer rashes and blisters.

Although the terms of the proposed EOS class action settlement have not been disclosed, the company says it will include a warning on the lip balm packaging and the product website. Further, the proposed EOS settlement will allow consumers who suffered adverse effects from the lip balm to file a claim for compensation.

EOS does not admit any liability and maintains that its products are safe. However, it agreed to the settlement to avoid the expense and uncertainty associated with ongoing litigation.

“Our products are safe – and this settlement confirms that,” EOS said in a statement. The company asserts that its ingredients are made with the highest-quality ingredients and meet or exceed all safety and quality standards in the industry. Further, EOS claims that its products are subject to rigorous safety testing.

Under the terms of the proposed EOS class action settlement, EOS will not change the formulation of its products.

The first EOS class action lawsuit was filed by plaintiff Rachael Cronin last month, after she allegedly experienced a host of adverse reactions after she used a flavored EOS lip balm. She alleges her lips felt like “sandpaper” within a few hours of using the EOS lip balm, and that she sought medical care after her lips began to crack, bleed and blister.

Cronin alleges her condition lasted about 10 days. She shared pictures of her face on Facebook which showed the extent of the adverse reaction she allegedly suffered due to the EOS lip balm. According to her EOS lip balm class action lawsuit, Cronin’s Facebook post “set off a frenzy of other responses from other individuals who shared the identical experience with EOS.”

EOS currently faces a total of five class action lawsuits that accuse it of manufacturing a defective and unreasonably dangerous product. If approved, the EOS lip balm settlement will resolve the five lawsuits.

Thanks, I took my daughter to the dr and they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her lips. They figured since she played softball, it was something in the grass, but that’s when she would really use the lip balm.
