What is LensCrafters Anti Glare Coating?

LensCrafters reportedly offers Premium AR (standing for anti-reflective) lens enhancements on their glasses. The company claims that this lens enhancement helps to reduce reflections by about 90 percent.

Reflections and glare can reportedly cause difficulty for consumers when driving. The headlights from oncoming vehicles reportedly cause glare on the lenses of glasses which can make it difficult to see the road and other drivers. LensCrafters claims to be able to reduce this glare with its anti-glare coating.

LensCrafters anti-glare coating is allegedly able to provide additional help with digital eye strain, the eye problems associated with using electronic devices for a long period of time. The eyewear company claims that digital eye strain can speed up macular degeneration related to age and offers its anti glare coating as a solution.

As a final feature of the Premium AR lens enhancement, LensCrafters claims that the coating helps to repel dirt, oil, and water from the eyeglass lenses. This reportedly makes the lenses easier to clean and lessens visual distractions.

“It gives your lenses enhanced resistance to smudges, scratches, dust and dirt and is especially effective on high index lenses which reflect more light than regular plastic lenses,” LensCrafters says of their Premium AR enhancements. “And that means clear, crisp vision for you and a better view all around.”

Does LensCrafters Anti Glare Coating Work?

Unfortunately, LensCrafters anti glare coating allegedly fails to live up to the hype.

Consumers have complained that the anti glare coating on LensCrafters glasses can wear off and start breaking down after less than a year. This allegedly results in scratches on the lenses which make the glasses hard to see through.

One consumer on Consumer Affairs complained that they had issues with their glasses only six months after purchasing them. The anti-glare coating was allegedly problematic right away. “Now 6 months later they are so full of scratches and was told since I didn’t buy the warranty there is nothing they can do,” the consumer wrote.

Other consumers have claimed that their glasses quickly developed scratches despite allegedly being scratch proof. One consumer lamented the company’s insistence that there was no defect, saying “the streaks have worsened and therefore there must be a defect somewhere within the lens/coating!”

One consumer reportedly had the coating on their lenses start to peel off after only seven months. Although the eyewear retailer agreed to repair them at no charge, the issue allegedly started to occur with new lenses after only four months.

Consumers are swearing off any further purchases at LensCrafters, claiming that the company provides subpar products while overcharging their customers. A 2017 lawsuit addressed false reference prices.

Although there have been no lawsuits filed against the company, attorneys are investigating whether or not consumers may have standing to seek compensation from the company. Deceptive trade practices are illegal under state and federal laws, with some statutes allowing consumers to recover damages for any violations.

I purchased a pair of expensive (high index because of strong prescription) Lenscrafter glasses with anti-glare coating & it started to delaminate around 10 months. I went to the store just after 1 year & the manager repeated stated that it was over a year! He also tried to blame my handling, but I’m so blind that I wear my glasses all day long. I’m not taking them off & throwing them on a desk or counter. They are folded carefully & set properly on my nightstand at night. It is very upsetting for such an expensive pair of glasses to become more & more useless in a year

My wife and I purchased frames and lenses in March 2017. We also purchased anti glare coating. Each of us had to return 2 times. First time they took our glasses to get lenses replaced at no cost. 2nd time they replaced my wife’s lenses and mine they said they would replace and use their better anti glare coating. They warned me that it was the best coating they offer. A few months after wearing my new lenses my wife said “your glasses are all scratched but I couldn’t see anything on my lenses. I do see them now. We will never go back to Lenscrafters
