Anti reflective coating is supposed to be a useful enhancement for glasses wearers, but a growing number of consumers are complaining that LensCrafters’ Premium AR anti glare upgrade doesn’t last.
The anti reflective coating offered by LensCrafters is meant to reduce the reflections on your glasses, and the company claims that reflection reduction is about 90 percent with this coating. The company also touts its coating as able to reduce other visual distractions, like water spots and specks of dust.
It is referred to by the company as “Premium AR,” but you’ll often also hear the phrase “anti glare” to describe it. The website further claims that Premium AR helps to minimize eye strain with the use of digital devices.
The coating is an optional add-on to the lenses of the glasses that they sell, and can be added to a number of different types of lenses, including plastic, polycarbonate, and Hi-Index.
LensCrafters’ Anti Reflective Coating Draws Customer Complaints
Unfortunately, more and more disappointed LensCrafters customers are complaining that their glasses’ anti glare is rubbing off within an unexpectedly short amount of time—some claim the coating lasted less than a single year. After facing legal challenges to its Accufit technology and being accused of a deceptive pricing scheme, LensCrafters may now have another big consumer issue on its hands.
Consumers have turned to the internet to share their complaints about LensCrafters’ anti glare coating, and have found that they are far from alone. One customer took to an internet forum and claimed that when their anti reflective coating rubbed off less than a year after getting the glasses, the company told them that “that is what it does,” but that the lenses could be replaced for an additional $200.
“They should have told me that it would rub off,” the customer said.
According to another customer, “They have replaced several pairs of lenses to fix this and the last time they said no more.” The customer added, “They do not tell you it wears off and they know it won’t last but they sell you on it anyway. Stay away from that place.”
Several customers noted that their maintenance techniques for their glasses follow the directions that LensCrafters gave them, but the glasses coating is deteriorating quickly anyway. “I clean the glasses with the cleaner and towelettes that LC sold to me,” wrote one customer, but the coating was breaking down regardless. The commenter noted that their wife, too, was having the same problem with her own lenses from LensCrafters.
“I took my glasses back to LC and they blamed it on me. I always clean my glasses appropriately. I do not use the harsh chemicals they accused me of using. I have gone to LC for years and am a faithful customer,” wrote another customer. “I’m now seeking other options.”
