  • Why: The portable chargers can overheat while charging, posing fire and burn hazards.
  • Where: The Costco portable charger recall is active in the United States.

MyCharge recalled more than half a million portable chargers sold at Costco stores nationwide as they can overheat while charging, posing fire and burn hazards.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission published the recall June 20. It applies to about 567,000 myCharge POWER HUB All-In-One 10,000 mAh portable chargers with model numbers AO10FK-A, AO10FK-B and AO10FK-C.

The company issued the recall after 120 reports involving the portable chargers overheating, according to the notice.

Chargers caused residential fires, recall says

MyCharge received five reports of incidents involving the chargers, including two reports of residential fires resulting in approximately $165,000 in reported property damage, the recall states.

Costco has received 115 portable charger returns, with customers mentioning melting, expanding, smoking, fire, burning, exploding or sparking.

There have been no reports of injuries requiring medical attention, the recall notice says. The company is not facing legal action, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they can sometimes result in lawsuits.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled portable chargers and contact myCharge for a free replacement portable charger, according to the recall notice. They can reach myCharge at 888-251-2026 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET Monday-Friday, by email at [email protected] or online at https://mycharge.com/pages/power-hub-all-in-one-recall.

MyCharge sold the chargers exclusively at Costco stores nationwide and online at Costco.com from January 2022 through November 2023 for about $40. The recall notice includes specific instructions for disposing of the battery: Do not throw this recalled battery in the trash. Do not deposit this recalled battery in used battery recycling boxes found at various retail and home improvement stores.

Meanwhile, a recent class action lawsuit claims Costco lies to customers when it claims it will always disclose when a product is more expensive on its website than in stores. A Costco member claims the company deceptively marks up products sold online at Costco.com and fails to disclose this to consumers.
