The Samsung TV class action lawsuit investigation alleges the early device failure can be attributed to defective internal parts, which causes the television to overheat.

This investigation was launched against the company for allegedly failing to warn the general public against these defects and that their products may have a much shorter life expectancy than advertised.

The Samsung TV class action lawsuit investigation primarily pertains to consumers in Florida and New Jersey who purchased Samsung plasma televisions manufactured between Jan. 1, 2009 and Nov. 30, 2014. Consumers allege the

There have been several legal actions already taken against the manufacturer, including a Samsung TV class action lawsuit. This Samsung TV class action lawsuit is being filed against Samsung and Sears, alleging the companies had manufactured and sold defective plasma televisions were prone to early failure and overheating.

The claim is being filed by lead plaintiff Charles D. McCallon, who alleges Samsung knew that it was distributing defective plasma televisions with inferior components.

Overview of Samsung TV Class Action Lawsuit

According to the Samsung TV class action lawsuit, McCallon had bought a Samsung 3D TV for $840 in 2011 at a Sears, but had experienced problems with the television after he moved to a different state.

Just two years after purchasing the television, the device allegedly broke. McCallon says he took it to a Samsung repair facility in 2013 and was told the television was “unrepairable” because one of the internal components was no longer in production.

More specifically, McCallon states the early device failure of the television was caused by defective capacitors, which had broken and could no longer regulate voltage spikes in the television. McCallon alleges Samsung knowingly manufactured and produced defective televisions, which were then sold to customers.

According to the Samsung TV class action lawsuit investigation, these products burn out way before the eight year lifespan the company promised. McCallon alleges these defective televisions have either forced consumers to get new devices, or have the owner face expensive repair costs.

“Manufacturer and retailer defendants have or should have had actual knowledge of the design defect in the televisions, but have failed to adequately recall/cease sales of the televisions and/or cure the design defect described in this complaint,” the Samsung TV class action lawsuit states.

The Samsung TV class action lawsuit alleges 10 counts of unjust enrichment damages and violations under state consumer protection law, with McCallon seeking an unspecified amount of compensation. McCallon’s seeks to represent “hundreds” of consumers who purchased allegedly defective Samsung televisions between 2009 and present day.

With the average retail price ranging between $250 to $5,000 for the TVs at issue, Samsung and Sears could face serious financial strain if this and other class action lawsuits are successful in obtaining damages for consumers. Samsung has been hit with three other class action lawsuits, alleging similar claims of defective components causing premature failure in the television. Customers who filed these Samsung TV lawsuits had reportedly paid at least $800 for Samsung 3D Smart televisions, with prices going up to $5,000.

This Samsung TV Class Action Lawsuit is Charles D. McCallon v. Samsung Electronics America Inc., et al., Case No. 2:18-cv-00114, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah.

Having multiple problems with my 6 series TV with smart hub , volume issue and have been going back and forth with samsung with no cure for issues they finally told me to bring it to a certified samsung repairman if you go on there community page there’s hundreds of people with same problem but samsung won’t make it right

  2. Chris says:

I came across this while searching for others like me. I purchased a Samsung UN65JS8500 3D tv early in 2016. Late 2018 my tv began to show light streaks across both sides of the television with the sides being extremely hot. Since then it got progressively worse to the point up and down both sides there are bright lights from the defective leds shining through. The screen has also gotten very dark and blurry making it almost unwatchable. In order to see the screen, the room now has to be darkened and still it is difficult.

I have contacted Samsung several times over the last couple years only to either be told there is nothing they can do. Once time they were even rude and condescending to the point they told me I should have purchased the Sony that I told them I originally purchased but returned for this tv.

Finally, after making a post on the Samsung community website, I was contacted by Samsung representatives. They offered me a one time after warranty parts and labor to fix my tv. They sent an authorized Samsung repair technician to my home. After he inspected the tv and reported back to Samsung, they agreed to cover parts and labor. However, they then advised the technician that parts were no longer available, so they authorized a replacement tv for me.

I was then contacted by Samsung approximately a week later to set this up. When I talk the the Samsung representative, they again acknowledged what was told. But after placing me on hold several time, they then told me again that since the parts were no longer available that they would no longer honor what they initially said about fixing the tv. I asked then about what was told to the technician that they would replace the tv since they offered the one time after warranty covered for the tv. They told me the would not honor that then told me since the tv was old it had depreciated to the point it wasn’t worth anything.

Note, I purchased this is 2016 and it began showing degradation from defective manufacturing in 2018. I even provided pictures from that time as well as photos from several different times since then. Also for a tv that originally cost $3200, one would expect it to last more than a couple years or at least have parts. I was told by them to search online at places like ebay. They even said that if I could find the parts, pay for them and then pay for someone to fix it that they would cover that. But, I would have to to this myself. They even provided me the phone number for the authorized Samsung parts supplier. However, this is the same number they gave me last year when I contacted them and was told then parts were not available for some time being discontinued.

Sadly, someone like me is unable to do anything other than give up. I will no longer be a customer purchasing from Samsung unless they make things right and help people like me who have had this happen. A simple search for this tv leads to post after post of the same exact problem.

  3. Darlene Smith says:

I live in California and purchased a UN65JS8500 3D tv in 2016 for $2500 + Best Buy extended warranty and Samsung 3D blu ray player (which broke down during its warranty and had to be replaced). Tv now shows bright edges which heat up. Samsung has said parts for repair are not available and offered $255.60 as a prorated buy back price for this tv. This is not an acceptable solution in my opinion.

I want a class action lawsuit.

  9. Philip Boissiere says:

I just had issue with a samsung ks8000 model thats having screen/hardware failiure conveniently after 2 years of owning the tv. My best buy geek squad warranty just expired 2 months ago and according to samsung that 2 year plan should have been an “extended warranty” and start after the 1st year of manufacturer warranty was up, but this is how best buy tricks you because they claim their plan runs concurrently and replaces the 1 yr samsung warranty when you call them, which really is a scam in itself. You are essentially buying a 1 yr warrant from best buy, as they are stealing your default 1 yr warranty from samsung by not starting after that one is up. Not only will i never buy anything from best buy now, but samsung as well for knowingly selling a defective product. I have found many cases of folks reporting similar failiures with their ks8000 tvs, and always right around the 2 year mark if not earlier. Also, I have purchased 2 samsung tvs in the last 3 years from best buy, the other one is starting to show some image failiure as well. Sad thing is i really loved this ks8000 model tv, oh well.

  10. Tim says:

I purchased a 55″ curved 4k TV in 2017. Within a week I noticed a couple stuck pixels. Due to my job I wasn’t able to report the problem until several months later. Samsungs solution was to send a repair person all the way from casa grande, which is over 100 miles from here. They didn’t have what they needed and had to reschedule. Long story short they came down 5 times because they didn’t replace the TV just the screen which they told me cost more than the original TV. BUT this screen had an even worse problem of a flickering 4″ black band on the left side. This problem was never fixed and Samsung eventually blamed it on my equipment. My equipment that doesn’t have this problem with any other TV. So after 6 months of dealing with them they made my TV worse. Now they’re saying its past the warranty and there’s nothing they can do. Well played samsung, well played. WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SAMSUNG PRODUCT!!! Absolutely horrible customer service and accountability!
