The Samsung TV class action lawsuit investigation alleges the early device failure can be attributed to defective internal parts, which causes the television to overheat.

This investigation was launched against the company for allegedly failing to warn the general public against these defects and that their products may have a much shorter life expectancy than advertised.

The Samsung TV class action lawsuit investigation primarily pertains to consumers in Florida and New Jersey who purchased Samsung plasma televisions manufactured between Jan. 1, 2009 and Nov. 30, 2014. Consumers allege the

There have been several legal actions already taken against the manufacturer, including a Samsung TV class action lawsuit. This Samsung TV class action lawsuit is being filed against Samsung and Sears, alleging the companies had manufactured and sold defective plasma televisions were prone to early failure and overheating.

The claim is being filed by lead plaintiff Charles D. McCallon, who alleges Samsung knew that it was distributing defective plasma televisions with inferior components.

Overview of Samsung TV Class Action Lawsuit

According to the Samsung TV class action lawsuit, McCallon had bought a Samsung 3D TV for $840 in 2011 at a Sears, but had experienced problems with the television after he moved to a different state.

Just two years after purchasing the television, the device allegedly broke. McCallon says he took it to a Samsung repair facility in 2013 and was told the television was “unrepairable” because one of the internal components was no longer in production.

More specifically, McCallon states the early device failure of the television was caused by defective capacitors, which had broken and could no longer regulate voltage spikes in the television. McCallon alleges Samsung knowingly manufactured and produced defective televisions, which were then sold to customers.

According to the Samsung TV class action lawsuit investigation, these products burn out way before the eight year lifespan the company promised. McCallon alleges these defective televisions have either forced consumers to get new devices, or have the owner face expensive repair costs.

“Manufacturer and retailer defendants have or should have had actual knowledge of the design defect in the televisions, but have failed to adequately recall/cease sales of the televisions and/or cure the design defect described in this complaint,” the Samsung TV class action lawsuit states.

The Samsung TV class action lawsuit alleges 10 counts of unjust enrichment damages and violations under state consumer protection law, with McCallon seeking an unspecified amount of compensation. McCallon’s seeks to represent “hundreds” of consumers who purchased allegedly defective Samsung televisions between 2009 and present day.

With the average retail price ranging between $250 to $5,000 for the TVs at issue, Samsung and Sears could face serious financial strain if this and other class action lawsuits are successful in obtaining damages for consumers. Samsung has been hit with three other class action lawsuits, alleging similar claims of defective components causing premature failure in the television. Customers who filed these Samsung TV lawsuits had reportedly paid at least $800 for Samsung 3D Smart televisions, with prices going up to $5,000.

This Samsung TV Class Action Lawsuit is Charles D. McCallon v. Samsung Electronics America Inc., et al., Case No. 2:18-cv-00114, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah.

My UN60UH8500 its been reacting by it self . It’s been 2.5 years since I bought it and I thought by unplugging it will do the job but unfortunately it just won’t stop.

Bought 4 Samsung led tv’s 4 years ago. One is a 65″ curved/with curved sound bar 3-D smart tv, $3,500. Went to Best Buy where they were originally purchased and found out from the salesman that 3-D tv’s were no longer being made. He said it was just a fad. So all of us suckers who bought one had been screwed by Samsung, Best Buy and Sears. You can’t get 3-D glasses or replacement parts when the tv breaks, and if the Blue-ray player, which plays 3-D movies, breaks, we can’t buy another one to play the movies. I have 50 3-D movies, by the way! I don’t want to sue anyone, I just want the tv replaced for free!!

  4. Brian Pring says:

My 60″ 8000 series model UN60KS8000FXZA now has black clouds in the screen, just over 2 years after purchase from best buy. Samsung could not fix with their list of troubleshooting and said “hire someone to fix it.” Will never buy samsung again, tv or other, and will be ready to join the next class action lawsuit.

  5. Jim says:

My UN55MU8000FXZA died after 1 year 3 months.

  6. Rhonda F Dickens says:

  8. Jamie Dewood says:

Hello. Can you please tell me if you have received any help or information with this issue.
My 6200 series tv started burning today and the tv poped and shut off. It’s 3 years old and they told me it’s (out of warranty!) My tv almost started on fire today with children in the house. Luckily I was home. All I had to do was get on the internet to see this is a huge issue with their products. After getting off the phone with this horrible company I was told to call a repair center. Unbelievable! They need to take
accountability for their defective products. I’m very disappointed and will be looking into a lawsuit.

  9. Chad says:

Is there a lawsuit currently in the works for the power cycling problem? My TV (UN55KS8000FXZA) just started doing it this evening.

    1. Peter says:

      I have a 75 inch UN75MU6300FXZA also dead after 3 months.

    2. Lisa Barras says:

I too have a UN55KS8000FXZA went out just over the 2 year mark. Paid $1500 for the TV. Was told the replacement part cost $995 and did not include the Service Tech Call. I was informed by the service tech for Samsung that these TV’s only last 3 years or less. They should be telling people to buy the extended warranty. It is cost prohibited to repair a $1500 TV that is only 2 years old. I was informed this is a common issue with these TV’s and Samsung knows it and only makes a few parts and when they are gone there is no way to repair it anyway. UGH.

      1. C says:

Same thing happened to me at the 2.5 year mark on my UN65KS8000….very disappointed that the only options are spend the cost of a new TV on repairs or buy a new TV. This will be my last Samsung

  10. Linda Williams says:

My LED TV ALSO HAS STARTED TURNING OFF AND ON.
