Bill Me Later TCPA Class Action Settlement

According to a recent post on the Top Class Actions Facebook page, payments have been sent out to Class Members who filed valid claims for the Bill Me Later class action settlement.

Bill Me Later

The class action lawsuit accused Bill Me Later of using an automatic dialing system to contact individuals by cell phone without their consent, in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). The TCPA prohibits companies from using automated dialing systems or prerecorded voices to call consumers without their prior express consent. TCPA violations can carry a $500 penalty per phone call.

Class Members of the Bill Me Later settlement include anyone who received a call on their cell phone made by or on behalf of Bill Me Later using an automatic telephone dialing system or an artificial voice between June 15, 2008 and July 24, 2014, without first giving their consent for Bill Me Later to make such a call.

The Bill Me Later settlement received final approval following a hearing on Nov. 20, 2014. Under the terms of the TCPA class action settlement, Class Members were expected to receive between $75 and $150, though the actual amount could be higher or lower depending how many claims are filed. Most Top Class Actions viewers are reporting they have received payments worth $97.78 from the Bill Me Later class action settlement. Some have reported higher awards.

The Bill Me Later TCPA Class Action Lawsuit is Murray v. Bill Me Later, Case No. 12-cv-04789, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.

ComScore Class Action Settlement

According to an update on the comScore settlement website, payments were mailed on April 20, 2015 to Class Members who submitted valid Claim Forms. Viewers of Top Class Actions are reporting awards worth between $500 and $600 from the comScore class action settlement.

The class action lawsuit accused comScore of using data collection software called RelevantKnowledge or PremierOpinion to unlawfully collect information from consumers’ computers. Under the terms of the comScore class action settlement, comScore agreed to pay $14 million to Class Members who file valid and timely claims.

The comScore class action settlement was approved at the Oct. 1, 2014 Final Fairness Hearing. Class Members include anyone who, at any time since 2005, had comScore’s data collection software downloaded and installed on their computers via a bundling partner, and used their computer in interstate commerce and/or communication.

The comScore Class Action Lawsuit is Dunstan, et al. v. comScore Inc., Case No. 1:11-cv-05807, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
