AT&T Customers Win Class Action Settlement Jackpot
By Kimberly Mirando
The AT&T class action settlement payout will go to AT&T residential landline customers in California between August 2001 and March 2003 who responded to newspaper and Web ads published statewide. One of the Plaintiff attorneys said no attempt was made to contact potential Class Members by mail because AT&T produced such poor records that the cost of providing individual class action settlement notices could have exceeded $2 million, or 20-percent of the fund.
The AT&T settlement is the result of a class action lawsuit that accused AT&T of charging its California long-distance customers more Universal Service Fund fees than allowed during that 20-month period.
AT&T was ordered to set up a $10.9 million class action lawsuit settlement fund to repay victims. Anyone who responded to the ads with a valid claim before April 29, 2011, was eligible to receive somewhere between $5 and $1,000 per phone line, depending on how many people responded.
If all of the estimated 6 million AT&T customers had filed a claim, the class action lawsuit settlement payout would have been about $2 per person. However, only 6,961 people with 9,045 phone lines submitted valid claims. As a result, starting this month the settlement administrator will mail checks for $1,000 to each of the claimants.

i just found out about the lawsuit
Over 1 year ago I received some legal papers from some law firm informing me about a class action lawsuit against AT&T. I signed the papers & returned it by mail. The other day a friend of mine received a check in the mail for $250.00 for the settlement. He had also received a check over 6 months ago from another firm for the same settlement. I haven’t received anything. I had AT&T as my long distance provider from 1995 – 2000. I called this phone # (206) 838-3210 that was imprinted on my friend’s check. I left several messages for them to return my call but they haven’t. So

AT&T would not work in my new area. . contacted AT&T months in advance. . .new house has long, winding driveway. .. dangerous for baby in car. ..phone no workem’ for 3 miles. .VERIZON worked fine. .. AT & T offered to put up a tower that worked JUST AROUND THE HOUSE. . .told them no. . .I spend days on the phone with them. . tried to opt out for a lesser charge. . was lied to and told this was okay. . .paid it. .($323). . .still got charged $700 in fines for going to new phones early. .. .and they turned us over to credit collection when we balked. . . so I paid the credit collectors instead. . .
AT&T owes me. .. .doug@snowshoepublishing.com
