AT&T Customers Win Class Action Settlement Jackpot

Almost 7,000 AT&T customers in California have hit the class action lawsuit settlement jackpot, with each receiving $1,000 or more for overcharges on their phone bills that for most of them amounted to a fraction of that. The payout underscores why it’s beneficial for Class Members of any class action lawsuit to fill out claims, even if they think a settlement payout will be small or don’t know how much money they will receive.
The AT&T class action settlement payout will go to AT&T residential landline customers in California between August 2001 and March 2003 who responded to newspaper and Web ads published statewide. One of the Plaintiff attorneys said no attempt was made to contact potential Class Members by mail because AT&T produced such poor records that the cost of providing individual class action settlement notices could have exceeded $2 million, or 20-percent of the fund.
The AT&T settlement is the result of a class action lawsuit that accused AT&T of charging its California long-distance customers more Universal Service Fund fees than allowed during that 20-month period.
AT&T was ordered to set up a $10.9 million class action lawsuit settlement fund to repay victims. Anyone who responded to the ads with a valid claim before April 29, 2011, was eligible to receive somewhere between $5 and $1,000 per phone line, depending on how many people responded.
If all of the estimated 6 million AT&T customers had filed a claim, the class action lawsuit settlement payout would have been about $2 per person. However, only 6,961 people with 9,045 phone lines submitted valid claims. As a result, starting this month the settlement administrator will mail checks for $1,000 to each of the claimants.

When will I get my money there wasn’t problem taking payments from me monthly for false charges so now it is settled what is the problem. The courts approved it so where is it?

this is closed?!?! how do you find out about where to submit claims to open class action suits? I’ve been visiting this site for awhile now still clueless on how to find where to submit and which ones are still open… Theres never a link provided by topclassactions.com that i see.

is the class action filing closed? I don’t know how I missed this one, I had the same problem with then during the dates you are referring…..
ATT did reimburse me most of the charges but said they did not have records past when they over charged me like over 5 yrs – so I lost at least another 200.00 can i get that part too- they were NEVER able to provide me with high speed internet and we didnt know it because we had nothing to measure it against. Their technician was the one to tell us we didnt have that service at my location but we paid the bill for the service not provided as hi speed.
