Apple Jon Stewart cancellation overview:

  • Who: The U.S. House of Representatives Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party  is asking Apple for information on the cancellation of Jon Stewart’s show.
  • Why: The committee is looking at Chinese Communist Party influence over U.S. companies.
  • Where: The House Select Committee is based in Washington, D.C.

The U.S. House of Representatives Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party sent a letter to Apple asking for information on the cancellation of Jon Stewart’s Apple TV Plus show.

The letter comes after Stewart allegedly elected to leave the network when Apple pushed back on Stewart over topics such as China and artificial intelligence on the show. Stewart wanted complete editorial control, the Hollywood Reporter says.

Those topics caught the eye of the select committee, which is looking into Chinese Communist Party influence on American companies. The committee wrote that it was aware of undue influence from the party and its history of retaliating against companies for content it does not like.

“While companies have the right to determine what content is appropriate for their streaming service, the coercive tactics of a foreign power should not be directly or indirectly influencing these determinations,” said the Apple Jon Stewart letter signed by Select Committee Chairman Mike Gallagher and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi.

Apple should publicly state it allows content critical of China, Jon Stewert cancellation letter says

The select committee asked that Apple provide the select committee with a briefing on those concerns by Dec. 15. The letter said that the committee would also be speaking with Stewart’s representatives on the topic.

The committee also asked that Apple publicly state that content critical of the Chinese Communist Party is welcome on Apple TV Plus.

“We support the ability of artists, writers, studios, and streaming services alike to create content without fear of potential CCP retaliation and punishment,” the select committee Apple Jon Stewart letter said. “We similarly encourage American technology companies to diversify their supply chains, reduce their potential susceptibility to CCP pressure, and decrease their overall dependence on the PRC.”

Apple agreed to a $25 million discrimination settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Division Immigrant and Employee Rights Section after the company was accused of discriminating during the hiring process against potential employees based upon immigration status.

Since everyone coming to and moving to the USA swares an oath to the Constitution, then when they are found playing party to Communism, try them for treason and then execute them. From Bumbs to Presidents!

  3. Anisah says:

Censorship plain and simple. What is the reason Apple would be afraid of China? Because of its own business dealings with it. It’s all about $ and sales of Apple products. Manufacturing done in China.

Any US company that listens and acts on what a foreign country says is treason. What a bunch of puppets. It shows weakness.
