Apple agreed to a proposed $250 million class action settlement resolving claims it falsely advertised artificial intelligence features for certain iPhone models.
The class action lawsuit alleges Apple marketed the iPhone 16 lineup and certain iPhone 15 models as including enhanced Siri capabilities as part of its Apple Intelligence suite, even though some of the advertised features were not yet available.
Plaintiffs claim Apple’s marketing created the impression that the enhanced Siri features were already functional and available to users at the time of purchase.
According to the motion for preliminary approval, the settlement would cover consumers who purchased all iPhone 16 models and certain iPhone 15 models between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025.
The proposed settlement would provide class members with a payment of approximately $25 per eligible device for valid claims submitted. That amount could increase to as much as $95 per device depending on the number of claims filed.
Apple settlement includes future AI software updates
In addition to the monetary relief, Apple stated it anticipates providing additional Siri Apple Intelligence features through future software updates at no additional cost to users.
Apple denied wrongdoing and argued its marketing was not misleading because it had already released numerous Apple Intelligence features and disclosed that additional capabilities would roll out over time.
The class action lawsuit was first filed in March 2025 and later consolidated with several related actions in California federal court.
Plaintiffs’ attorneys stated the case involved novel legal and factual issues related to AI-based marketing claims and consumer expectations surrounding evolving technology products.
The proposed settlement does not resolve separate shareholder and securities lawsuits alleging Apple misled investors about the rollout of Siri AI features.
Details on how to file a claim were not immediately available. According to the settlement, Apple will provide a list of eligible customers to the settlement administrator after the preliminary approval hearing set for June 17, 2026.
Eligible consumers will reportedly have 90 days after receiving notice to submit a claim.

Meanwhile, a former Apple employee recently sued the company, alleging it unlawfully restricted low-wage employees from taking additional jobs in violation of Washington state’s noncompete law.
