An Iraq War Veterans Lawsuit Could Recover Compensation for IED and EFP AttacksVeterans injured by IED and EFP attacks may be eligible for an Iraq war veterans lawsuit filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Veterans who experienced injuries due to a roadside bomb, IED, or EFP attack while deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan may be eligible for an Iraq war veterans lawsuit. An Iraq war veterans lawsuit, filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, could recover compensation for medical expenses, permanent disability, pain and suffering, loss of consortium, loss of wages, wrongful death, and more.

In 2011, Adm. Mike Mullen, then Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, publicly confirmed that lethal weapons in Iraq were being sent from Iran with the knowledge of the Iranian government. Shortly after, Congress placed sanctions on Iran in an attempt to limit the funding necessary to mass produce lethal weapons. However, Iran was able to find banks willing to fund their efforts in return for large profits.

The Anti-Terrorism Act, 18 U.S. Code § 2333, states the following: “Any national of the United States injured in his or her person, property, or business by reason of an act of international terrorism, or his or her estate, survivors, or heirs, may sue therefor in any appropriate district court of the United States and shall recover threefold the damages he or she sustains and the cost of the suit, including attorney’s fees”.

So far, nine foreign banks have admitted to supplying Iran with billions of dollars in violation of the U.S. Anti-Terrorism Act and other international laws. Many of the guilty financial institutions have pleaded guilty in an Iraq war veterans lawsuit and reached settlements with the United States.

Banks that have pleaded guilty include HSBC Holding Group PLC (United Kingdom), BNP Paribas SA (France), Crédit Suisse AG (Switzerland), Standard Chartered Bank PLC (United Kingdom), Barclays PLC (United Kingdom), and Commerzbank AG (Germany). With money procured in violation of international anti-terrorist acts, Iran was able to mass produce IEDs, EFPs, and other lethal weapons which have caused permanent damage to soldiers.

An IED is an “improvised explosive device” commonly used as a roadside bomb. IEDs are through to have caused 63 percent of military deaths in the Iraq War and 66 percent of military deaths in the Afghanistan War. An EFP is an “explosively formed penetrator” capable of piercing armored tanks and traveling large distances. EFPs can be hidden over 100 yards from the road and easily camouflage, increasing the risk they pose to soldiers.

Veterans injured by lethal weapons may be eligible to file an Iraq war veterans lawsuit against the banks who conspired with Iran. Soldiers targeted by explosive attacks can experience broken bones, amputation, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, vision loss, post-traumatic stress disorder, and more. Although an Iraq war veterans lawsuit cannot heal permanent injuries or bring back fallen soldiers, the process can recover compensation for veterans and their families.

U.S. veterans injured by lethal weapons may be eligible to file a suit against the banks which funded international terrorism. Time to file an Iraq war veterans lawsuit is limited, and interested persons should not delay in speaking to an attorney.
