A class action lawsuit settlement with Alltel could mean a $5 voucher or a calling card for 100 minutes of free wireless long-distance service if you’re considered a class member.
The Alltel class action lawsuit, entitled Bell v. Alltel Communications, LLC, alleged the wireless carrier violated certain requirements imposed by the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA). The violation, according to the Alltel FACTA class action, was that Alltel printed the expiration date of credit and debit cards on receipts during transactions occurring at an Alltel retail store or involving the purchase of Alltel’s “Phone in a Box” product.
If you received an electronically printed receipt from Alltel after purchasing something at an Alltel retail store between December 4, 2006 and December 10, 2007, or in a transaction involving the purchase of Alltel’s “Phone in a Box” product between December 4, 2006 and March 12, 2008, and the receipt displayed 1) more than the last five digits of your credit card or debit card number, and/or 2) the expiration date of your card, you’re considered a class member of the Alltel FACTA class action lawsuit.
As part of the Alltel class action lawsuit settlement, you will be entitled to receive one of the following settlement benefits for each qualifying transaction you made: 1) A voucher for up to $5 toward the purchase of a wireless telephone accessory (excluding cell phones) OR 2) 100 minutes of free wireless long-distance service.
All you have to do to receive your Alltel settlement benefit is submit a Settlement Claim Certification Form via first-class mail, postmarked no later than January 27, 2011, to the Bell FACTA Settlement Administrator. They do not require that you provide proof of purchase, but you will need to sign the claim form under penalty of perjury that you meet the class member requirements. Claim forms can be downloaded at www.BellFACTASettlement.com.
