Neocate Lawsuit Could Lead to Compensation for Infant Bone DisordersParents of new infants may have grounds to file a Neocate lawsuit, with a recent investigation looking into reports of children who allegedly developed skeletal problems due to the infant formula.

Neocate is a special formula made for infants who can’t tolerate other kinds of formula made from milk or soy. Recent studies have linked Neocate to an increased risk of rickets and bone fractures.

One father who gave his son Neocate was almost accused of child abuse when his son suffered multiple fractures. The Mississippi father says he almost lost his child to Child Protective Services due to multiple fractures on his son’s body.

He later discovered that the boy’s bone structure issues could be related to effects of Neocate. This alternative explanation for the fractures saved the father from losing custody of his child.

Neocate formula is one of the most popular brands of alternative formulas available. It’s typically used for children with an allergy to milk. However, recent studies have shown that certain alternative formulas like Neocate could cause children to face an increased risk of bone fractures and rickets.

According to Neocate’s website, the formula was specifically designed for infants and children with dairy or other food allergies. Their formula is both dairy and soy free. While it sometimes gets described as an “elemental formula,” it’s technically considered an “amino acid based” formula designed to prevent allergic reactions.

Infant formulas like Neocate are completely broken down to avoid allergic reactions or other adverse reactions. The Neocate label reportedly states that the formula is “hypoallergenic” and “supports normal growth and development.”

Overview of Neocate Bone Density Deficiency Concerns

According to a recent study published in the medical journal Bone, researchers found that Neocate formula was linked to hypophosphatemia, a condition in which there are low levels of phosphate in the blood.

The study consisted of 51 children at 17 different scientific institutions, who were all fed amino acid based formulas like Neocate. Researchers noted that children who were fed Neocate had a higher likelihood of developing soft or weakened bone structures, along with having a vitamin D deficiency, fractures, rickets, and having insufficient mineralization.

The researchers noted that most of the children had improved once they had been given different formulas or were given supplemental phosphate. Even though these bone fractures may be linked to the side effects of a baby formula, parents may face child abuse allegations and children may suffer serious nutritional deficiencies.

Parents are currently being advised to check with their doctors regarding concerns for Neocate or other baby formulas, which may require regular blood tests to observe the child’s phosphate levels. Parents whose children suffered fractures or bone diseases after using one or more of the following products may be able to file a Neocate lawsuit:

  • Neocate Syneo Infant
  • Neocate Infant DHA/ARA
  • Neocate Nutra
  • Neocate Junior
  • Neocate Junior with Probiotics
  • Neocate Splash
