Neocate Infant Formula Linked to Skeletal IssuesUsers of the Neocate infant formula turn to it as a primary nutritional support for babies who cannot use other kinds of formulas. Parents using this formula expect that it is safe for vulnerable infants.

Recent research, however, shows that there is cause for concern because of the possible development of skeletal issues for those infants.

A study published last year has parents concerned that Neocate infant formula could cause rickets, bone fractures or other skeletal problems for the children who take it. Recent medical research has indicated that Neocate infant formula could cause skeletal deformities in infants as well as young children.

Children using the Neocate infant formula often have food allergies that prevent them from eating other types of formula. The Neocate infant formula is promoted as complete nutrition for these children who are otherwise vulnerable to improper development issues because they cannot absorb other types of formula without allergic reactions.

Any child who requires the Neocate infant formula could be at risk for severe bone density issues such as spontaneous fractures, skeletal deformities and rickets. According to information gathered and presented in recent medical research, Neocate infant formula is advertised as nutritionally complete and hypoallergenic to provide the same benefits available to a regular baby or toddler.

This Neocate infant formula also comes enhanced with proteins. Unfortunately, however, the Neocate infant formula has been connected to a medical condition referred to as hypophosphatemia which refers to the lack of phosphate in the recipient’s blood. Phosphate is a crucial factor for strong bone growth and Neocate infant formula and its resulting hypophosphatemia could lead to a broad range of health problems such as halted growth and sudden broken fractures and bones.

A recent study from the Mayo Clinic and Yale indicated that there were at least 51 different cases in Ireland and North America for children who had been fed the Neocate formula as their only source of food.

Nearly 94 percent of these babies who received the Neocate infant formula suffered from rickets, fractures or reduced phosphate blood content. For many of these patients, they had been diagnosed with rickets without the doctor realizing that the underlying issue was the Neocate baby formula itself. Rickets is a bone disease that impacts children and is most frequently caused by vitamin D deficiency.

Rickets patients are usually those who have a deficiency affecting bone growth. This is frequently suffered by children who have chronic or severe illnesses. Rarely, however, will children get this diagnosis because of a problem with their phosphorous.

Some of the symptoms of rickets include pain in the spine, legs or pelvis, muscle weakness, and delayed growth. Rickets can cause permanent damage if it is not discovered and treated quickly.
