Dome for NuWave Oven May Be Defective and Prone to Breaking, Consumers ClaimConsumer reports and a new class action suggest that the dome for NuWave oven products may be defective and prone to breaking despite advertising that they are durable.

NuWave LLC sells a line of countertop ovens designed as an alternative to a traditional oven found in many homes. The NuWave ovens use a combination of conduction heat, convection heat, and infrared heat to cook food, according to the manufacturers’ website.

The products are advertised as “durable” and “shatter resistant”, but consumer reports suggest that this is not actually the case. Consumers allege that the dome for NuWave oven products is prone to breaking and cracking, despite claims that it is shatter resistant.

The company reportedly offers a premium, amber colored Power Dome for NuWave oven products which is more durable and “virtually indestructible”. Consumers can purchase this dome at a higher price with their oven unit or separately. However, this dome may also be defective and prone to breaking, consumers claim.

Legal action has already been filed regarding the defective dome for NuWave oven products . In May 2018, a NuWave class action lawsuit was filed by consumer Elizabeth Aguilera. Aguilera alleged that she purchased four different NuWave ovens which came with the standard dome available. After minimal usage, she was forced to replace each dome for NuWave oven products she purchased.

Aguilera also claimed that customer service refused to provide her with a replacement dome for NuWave oven products. Instead, she was told that the standard dome was out of stock and was forced to purchase the more expensive Power Dome for NuWave Oven products.

“In fact, instead of providing consumers with free, non-defective replacements for their cracked and unusable Standard Domes, NuWave has a standard practice of manipulating consumers into paying to upgrade to NuWave’s newer, more expensive, Power Dome, an amber-colored dome which is advertised as being ‘virtually indestructible,’” Aguilera claimed in her class action lawsuit.

Consumers who have had their dome for NuWave oven products crack or shatter may try to replace their product under the one year warranty, but according to Aguilera, the company’s practice of discouraging warranty replacements is widespread.

According to Aguilera, if you had the dome for NuWave oven products break within the last three years, you may have been discouraged from taking advantage of the products’ warranties and told any of the following: no replacements were available; you would have to pay large amounts in shipping/handling fees to receive a replacement; you would have to pay extra for a “Power Dome” replacement. If this happened to you, you may be eligible to take action against NuWave.

A NuWave oven lawsuit or class action lawsuit may aim to hold the company accountable for knowingly selling a defective product and engaging in deceptive business practices when consumers attempt to get a new dome for NuWave oven products. Plaintiffs may be able to recover compensation for breach of warranties, violation of consumer protection laws, unjust enrichment, and more.

I have [3] three Nu-Wave Ovens, and have only used [1] and the clear dome that came with the original purchase has cracked in 3 places but it still cooks food just not as well. When I called customer service they said a new amber dome was around $75 dollars. I still have not replaced it, but now it has become imperative to replace it if I want to continue cooking with it. I purchased them when they were first advertised on T.V. and received some nice freebee’s. I suppose I will try to find a amber replacement dome for as cheap as I can just because I love cooking with it, I’m really disappointed to learn that it has been discontinued. I hope Nu-Wave will come out with a newer and better one because I have learned to depend on this product for most of my cooking needs!! I suppose I will have to find more of them for sale and store them away until needed. I’m a single male that really likes cooking meals with the NU-WAVE OVEN because it’s easy to use and I really like the way it efficiently cooks food in half the time it takes a conventional oven to do it. Great product! They just need to perfect the dome!!

My dome has cracked in several places. Fortunately, painters tape aka frog tape on the outside of the cracks on the dome lid still is holding the dome together. Tacky but indoor grill is functional.

  3. Carolina Placht says:

I bought a new wave also my dome cracked after paying $364 for less than a year later I have to spend more money on a new dome $40 to $70 ridiculous or keep hot gluing or saudering the old one . As it heats up the glue softens and now the dome is hot glued to the base .so yes a replacement dome would be a great start

I’ve had my nuwave for just over a year and the dome cracked a deer weeks ago. To expensive to replace and I refuse to buy a whole new unit after reading this.

  5. Damiana Duarte says:

I purchased my NuWave Pro over a year ago at a retail store and my Dome was shuttered. I try to contact the Manufacturer and they said that they don’t carry the parts as it was discontinued but I can purchase one for around $40 to $68 . They refuse to send me a replacement at all. so disappointed I spent over $100 on a faulty product and no warranty at all.
