The Home Helpers in-home elder care company takes care of the elderly, but it may not be taking good enough care of its own employees, according to a recent wage and hour class action lawsuit filed by former employees. According to the lawsuit, Home Helpers in-home elder care employees suffered from violations of wage and hour laws, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and state wage and hour regulations.

Home Helpers In-Home Elder Care Lawsuit
Home Helpers in-home elder care provides caregiving services in several locations in the U.S. Employees providing Home Helpers in-home elder care services go to the homes of the elderly, and provide a number of different services like cleaning, meal prep, laundry, errands, and other assistance.
However, this new lawsuit claims that Home Helpers in-home elder care workers are subjected to significant wage and hour violations.
According to Home Helpers in home elder care workers, the company often requires its employees to provide care in 24-hour shifts from three to sometimes six days a week. The lawsuit alleges that, on top of these wage violations, employees were also not given adequate sleeping facilities—or even the chance to sleep uninterrupted for the required minimum of five hours. Despite this, the lawsuit claims, Home Helpers in home elder care workers were deducted wages for sleep time anyway.
The lawsuit further alleges that, in an attempt to stop employee complaints, the company fired one of the Home Helpers in home elder care workers when she began the litigation process. Of course, retaliating against an employee in this way is also illegal.
Wage and Hour Regulations
There are a series of both federal and state wage and hour laws put in place to protect workers and ensure they are treated fairly. Some workers may find themselves unable to file wage and hour complaints because they are not aware of FLSA rules.
