If you owned or leased a 2002-2006 model year Honda CR-V or a 2003-2006 model year Honda Element, you could be owed money in a class action settlement. The settlement resolves a class action lawsuit that accused Honda of defectively designing the engines in these vehicles, making them susceptible to oil-fed engine fires.
If you experienced an oil-fed engine fire and incurred uninsured or unreimbursed losses as a result, you are considered a class member. “Uninsured and Unreimbursed Losses” means any actual expense you incurred, such as insurance deductible payments, the loss of personal property in the fire, or damage to buildings or other property caused by the fire. It does not include claims for personal injury, diminished value of the vehicle or perceived underpayment for the value of the damaged vehicle. As part of the settlement agreement, Honda has agreed to pay for any uninsured or unreimbursed losses you incurred due to the engine fire.
The following Honda models purchased or leased through the accompanying dates are eligible under the class action settlement:
2002 Honda CR-V, December 31, 2009
(Claims must be postmarked by January 31, 2010)
