The Marlboro Lights class action settlement resolves allegations brought by two Arkansas plaintiffs in 2003. The lawsuit accused Philip Morris of using terms like “lower tar and nicotine” when in reality the “lighter” cigarettes did not provide a safer alternative to smoking regular Marlboros.

Philip Morris denied the allegations but agreed to settle the litigation to avoid the risk and cost of ongoing litigation.

Class Members included “all persons who purchased Defendant’s Marlboro Light or Marlboro Ultra Light cigarettes in the state of Arkansas for personal consumption from November 1, 1971 through June 22, 2010.”

The deadline to file a claim for the Marlboro Lights class action settlement passed on Dec. 1, 2016.

I received a check that was post dated and the case is now closed. What do I do to actually get my money? I already tried mailing them a copy of my check so that I can get a new one that I can cash, and it was returned to me noting case is now closed. Is there anyone I can contact or what could be done?

  6. Sara says:

My mom has received 2 checks, one for $100, which she cashed and the check bounced because the date was bad on the check. She just got the second check in the mail Yesterday for $400 and the date on the check is September 27, 2017, with the void after 30 days statement, there was also no timestamp on the envelope the check came in. The date it was received was 01/03/18. We contacted the law firm that handled the case and found out that several people have had this issue and that now all accounts are closed because the case is now closed and has been for about a month now. We contacted the BBB and they put us in touch with the attorney general who is taking control of this now. So if anyone else gets checks that they can’t cash or have gotten checks that have bounced, call the attorney general and let them handle it.

Does anyone have a number for the administrators office that isn’t disconnected? I have a case open because my last check I received was returned to my bank so I had to open a case a few weeks ago. Nobody has gotten back to me like they said and when I went to call today the number is disconnected, my email was marked as undeliverable, and the website won’t load….

Did anyone receive a court ordered notice of the Cy Pres distribution of the remaining $2.2 million of undistributed settlement funds? I guess that means we have to suggest a 3rd party recipient to receive the remaining settlement funds?

    1. Curlie Jackson says:

I got one also, what’s the meaning. I need a second check.
I read that we are to get a second check is there any truth to this.
