eos-lip-balmLast week, EOS Products LLC announced that it would settle five proposed class action lawsuits that alleged its lip balm products caused consumers to suffer rashes and blisters.

Although the terms of the proposed EOS class action settlement have not been disclosed, the company says it will include a warning on the lip balm packaging and the product website. Further, the proposed EOS settlement will allow consumers who suffered adverse effects from the lip balm to file a claim for compensation.

EOS does not admit any liability and maintains that its products are safe. However, it agreed to the settlement to avoid the expense and uncertainty associated with ongoing litigation.

“Our products are safe – and this settlement confirms that,” EOS said in a statement. The company asserts that its ingredients are made with the highest-quality ingredients and meet or exceed all safety and quality standards in the industry. Further, EOS claims that its products are subject to rigorous safety testing.

Under the terms of the proposed EOS class action settlement, EOS will not change the formulation of its products.

The first EOS class action lawsuit was filed by plaintiff Rachael Cronin last month, after she allegedly experienced a host of adverse reactions after she used a flavored EOS lip balm. She alleges her lips felt like “sandpaper” within a few hours of using the EOS lip balm, and that she sought medical care after her lips began to crack, bleed and blister.

Cronin alleges her condition lasted about 10 days. She shared pictures of her face on Facebook which showed the extent of the adverse reaction she allegedly suffered due to the EOS lip balm. According to her EOS lip balm class action lawsuit, Cronin’s Facebook post “set off a frenzy of other responses from other individuals who shared the identical experience with EOS.”

EOS currently faces a total of five class action lawsuits that accuse it of manufacturing a defective and unreasonably dangerous product. If approved, the EOS lip balm settlement will resolve the five lawsuits.

I filled out an info request for EOS, tried to submit but it wouldn’t let me because I would not give them the right to use my data for sales calls and contact so I decided not to accept and submit, 1 hour later I was contacted by them to join by a phone call.

I can’t believe these are from 4 years ago and EOS is still selling this product. My whole mouth hurts, my gum are sensitive and painful, the inside of my lip feels like gravel, my lips are dry, cracked, blistered, and have a rash. It had never happened before when I used the mint and vanilla. Then I bought the holiday 4 pack and I’m pretty convinced it was the pomegranate lip balm.

I started using the Organic EO lip balms about 1 month ago the I have two different ones the long tube that is Green in Mint and also a light pale yellow tube. I do NOT think that EO’s has fixed their product I thought my lips were just dry because of weather and it continued to get worse until I had a blister and my lips were so dried out so I stopped using the green and started putting straight shea butter on my lips and they got better. Well I bought another EO in the yellow long tube and started using it about a week ago and the same thing has happened again but this time I literally have a blister on my lip and the corner of one of my lips is red and my lips feel the same way they did the first time I used them. This is NOT weather related and I do not feel they have fixed their products I googled to see if anyone else had ever had this issue and saw the lawsuit that was done on this but was this on the long tubes of EO ? MY lips hurt so bad right now Im having to put shea butter back on them trying to get them heeled something is seriously wrong with this product!!!!

  4. Pamela Givans says:

My daughter started using this lip balm when I noticed that her lips were turning white because of being dry. I noticed her lips were dry and chapped. When I asked her if she was using the lip balm she said yes and could not understand why her lips were dry. We were talking to someone who informed us that this company was being sued. She has stopped using this product but her lips are dry and chapped and swollen.

I tried this product yesterday now I have swollen lips and blisters started. And am learning of other people having the same symptoms for the first time

  6. Wendy Reynolds says:

I use to love this product until week ago. I’m now on my third time getting blisters on my lips and was just made aware by the pharmacist that the eos is the cause of the blistering. My lip looks HORRIBLE! It’s all scabbed up and I’m now on my third day of missing work because of it. I would recommend that anybody who is using this product to through it away IMMEDIATELY!! Please let me know where I can submit pictures of my lip and how to get in on the lawsuit.

  7. Wendy Reynolds says:

I have had the same reaction. This is the third time I have gotten blisters on my lips. Unfortunately I was just made aware by the pharmacist that the eos lip balm I use constantly is the cause of it. I’m now missing work for the third day because of this. I will never use this product again.

  8. Heather Venegas says:

I had a similar experience, I used eos in December 2016 and got blisters, red rash, and bleeding! I thought it was just the cold weather! Then I tried eos again on January 23 2017 and got blisters by the evening and woke up to red rash on lips and around! Hmmmmmm weird I think I need to do something cause the previous lawsuit apparently was not taken seriously!

    1. Churice L Raines says:

I agree something needs to be done same has happened to me recently.

  9. Patricia Lemieux says:

I wish I’d known about the allergic reactions when I tried this in September of 2016 for the first time. My reaction wasn’t immediate, but it ended up being four months of painful cracked lips while I tried eliminating all sorts of products and food to find the allergen. Since the EOS is organic and natural, I didn’t even consider it to be the problem until I was away from home for a week and had forgotten to pack it. My lips cleared up in five days. It would have saved me a lot of trouble if this had been publicized. Since there seem to be a lot of allergic reactions, maybe EOS should put a disclaimer on it’s products or rethink it’s formulas.

    1. Sabrina says:

Me too. Just started having a reaction and was freaking out. Always going back to the most simplest explanation…it must be something I’m putting on my lips. I had been using eos for YEARS and LOVED it. The only balm that ever worked. So when my lips started peeling and cracking and stinging, I got really upset. I started researching and just found out that they had changed their formula. I’m heart broken.
