neurontinThe manufacturers of the drug Neurontin reached a $325 million class action lawsuit settlement Wednesday over allegations they fraudulently marketed the prescription drug, which is used to treat seizures, restless leg syndrome, and pain caused by shingles. If approved, third-party payers of the drug will be eligible to claim a cash award from the Neurontin class action settlement, announced Friday.

The Neurontin settlement marks the end to a nearly 10-year-old class action lawsuit battle in which plaintiffs, who included both direct purchasers and third-party payers, accused Pfizer of delaying generic versions of Neurontin and promoted the drug for unapproved uses. Pfizer reached a $190 million Neurontin class action settlement with direct purchasers of the drug (consumers) in April.

The plaintiffs in the Neurontin class action lawsuit alleged that Pfizer delayed competition from generic producers of the drug, gabapentin anhydrous, which Pfizer sold under the name Neurotin, by exercising a monopoly over the medicine. The plaintiffs alleged that Pfizer’s actions included illegal off-label promotion, manipulating the patent application process, filing bogus patent lawsuits, and engaging in fraud, which the plaintiffs claim amounted to violations of the Sherman Act.

Additionally, the plaintiffs claimed they had to overpay for Neurontin. In 2004, following an investigation by the U.S. Justice Department, Pfizer pleaded guilty to criminal illegal marketing charges involving Neurontin and was hit with a $430 million fine, sparking the Neurotin class action lawsuit.

The third-party payor plaintiffs included insurance companies, health care benefit providers, union health and welfare plans, and others. The third-party plaintiffs filed a motion for preliminary approval of the Neurontin settlement, which will provide cash awards to third-party payors in the United States who purchased, paid for, administered and/or reimbursed for Neurontin sold by the Defendants or gabapentin sold by Greenstone LLC.

The Neurontin class action settlement reached in April will apply to consumers in the United States that purchased Neurontin from Pfizer at any time during the period of December 11, 2002 through August 31, 2008, and who have purchased generic gabapentin.

Details on how to file a claim for both the consumer Neurontin class action settlement and the third-party payor settlement were not immediately available, but the settlement website for the third-party payors will be www.NeurontinSettlement.com, according to court documents. The site was not live at press time.

I have been involved in two class action lawsuits.
I doubt that you will get any compensation.
my first check was for 45 cents
the second one was for 20 cents.
    the attorneys get the rest.

  2. Mario M. Jurado says:

I was on Gabpinton for 3 months, I was prescribed it for seizures and the sleep I was not able to get. I slept for 18 hrs the first time I was prescribed it and woke up more tired than I was before I went to sleep. My Dr said that was part of the onset of getting used to it. I had more seizures on gabapinton then before. I counted almost one a week, longer and more violent for three months. When before I maybe had one a month.

    1. Deanna Allen says:

So when did you start it if I may ask and what dosage did your Dr prescribe you

  3. Bobbie says:

Is there a class action lawsuit against gabapentin

  4. Carolyn says:

I’ve only been on Gabapentin a few months at a low dose. It has stabilized my bipolar extreme moods and given my back stability I haven’t had in years! I feel calmer, more focused, and I can get things done one by one. For me it is a miracle drug. I also take Wellbutrin with it and I feel well from depression and anxiety. No more thoughts of wanting to die from the rollercoaster mood states I suffered with. No more rapid cycling or mixed states. I do feel slightly sedated, my mouth is dry, and my head can feel it, but this is a mild price to pay for recovery from a debilitating mental illness. The reward is worth it.

  5. Neil Grobluskey says:

I was put on this medication in recovery 12 years ago. 800 3x a day since….it has turned into another dopesickness “non-addictive” label once again bullshit. This drug has destroyed my life almost as bad as narcotics. Where the hell is my money for 12 years of agony?

  6. Rachel Hutchins says:

Who do i contact to find out about the drug Neurontin while taking mediation in 1999-2000 2001 2002-2003? The numerous suicide attempts and thinking back I have had countless problems with my teeth….. Oh my god and that’s not all the list goes on and on….

    1. Ang says:

I just found this today. I’m very happy there’s a win for this because it just goes to show the pharmacies and doctors DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING BUT MONEY .
So everyone of us has a price tag on us according to them.
Doctors get money from pharmaceutical companies to prescribe certain medications. ( just found that .) Call me gulible but I grew up in a generation that believed in their doctor and I was taught that.
So much they knew…. because my doctors… and the phamecutical companies ruined my life . Not just mine.
.. my kids… a marriage. A career and so much more.
Lets thank them ( in my sarcastic voice).
So.while we all sit and have to go on with ordinary lives, they are basking in the sun, traveling the world…. and while we ate home getting sick going through some side affect and withdrawl. Do you think they care? This win, although a victoty for some and others.. not so much. eprobably didn’t really touch them. until they found out their designer suits and homes could be at risk and even then….they think …” that’s what insurance is for all.
Yeah so what does this do? Slap their hand and say ” don’t”?
And what happens to those who have taken this, didn’t have the fight left in them to try to fight because the medication messed them up that much? They just are forgotten and given a few dollars?
      The system just is twisted.

  7. Tangue Blair says:

    1. john says:

      look for another cause.

      1. Sparks says:

        You’re an asshole john.

        1. Hotgurldesteoyedbtgabspentin says:

          Agreed. There’s always one.

  9. JOY PARKER says:

I am absolutely desperate and devastated! My doctor prescribed Gabapentin several years ago for restless leg syndrome. I have always had healthy teeth, twice a year checkups with no cavities, usualIy. I had only been out of invisalign braces 4 years! That was $8000. I told my dentist I was having problems with dry mouth. I used every thing, mouthwash, spray, carried water around, had it on nightstand at night . It didn”t seem to help. In Sept of 2017, my dentist told me I did not have gum disease! In 2018, my crowns came off, my teeth started breaking off at the gum. My dentist told me I needed to have my teeth pulled & get dentures. I went for a second opinion. This dentist told me I had gum disease and needed all teeth extracted! During this process, I would not leave my house! I have gone thru HELL! to sum it up, I got full dentures. Now they say due to bone loss & shrinkage, I need implants!! It is going to cost $60,000 to $70,000. I can’t eat! Dentures flop, using Adhesives! Oral surgeon says that dentures are not going to stay in due to loss & shrinkage! There is more! Can something be done for my mental, physical and hell I’ve experienced? Thank You!

    1. Tina says:

You need another dentist. When you lose your teeth and they have been gone a while you lose bone loss is what I was told. They say they can’t do implants if you have a lot of bone loss but can get denture which I would never like. I think someone is giving you the run around. They have to tighten your dentures every so often otherwise they will get loose. My ex went through it constantly and was frustrated to have to use the adhesive to keep his in. It is a shame implants are so expensive when you need them so bad.

    2. john says:

What have your teeth got to do with with Neurontin?

      1. Sparks says:

It rots them, much like it has your brain, you pissant.

  10. K Kearn says:

Does anyone know how to get off Gabapentin?

    1. PooBear says:

If you find out please tell me. I’ve been on Gabapentin for 8-9 years and my teeth are horrible and embarrassing. I constantly taste metal and am sick in my stomach EVERYDAY. When I try and stop taking them the withdrawal is AWFUL.
But if you try and mention it to your doctor you’re a “Drug Addict”. You CANT WIN
