2012 Chevrolet Equinox MyLink Class Action Lawsuit

By Matt O’Donnell

2012 Chevrolet EquinoxGeneral Motors has been hit by a class action lawsuit claiming it advertised and sold the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox as containing the “MyLink” technology system, even though not all of them did.

Plaintiff Michael Brewer alleges in the Equinox MyLink class action lawsuit that GM deceptively advertised that the 2012 Chevy Equinox came with a “cutting edge” information technology system called “MyLink,” but that some 2012 models sold in late 2011 and early this year did not have it. He is seeking damages and restitution for owners who did not get MyLink as promised.

“Throughout 2011, GM widely and publicly advertised and marketed its Chevrolet MyLink system and specifically represented to the general public that MyLink would be available in the fall of 2011 in connection with 2012 model year Equinox vehicles. However, it appears GM jumped the gun and marketed a system it was not yet ready to mass-produce and/or install on 2012 Equinox vehicles until a few short months ago. Yet GM did not – and has not ever – disclosed to Plaintiff, Class Members or the general public these material facts about timing and availability of the MyLink system,” the class action lawsuit states.

The Chevy Equinox MyLink class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all California purchasers of model year 2012 Chevrolet Equinox vehicles who purchased their vehicles between January 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012, and did not have the MyLink system advertised by GM.

It is seeking injunctive relief, damages, restitution and more for alleged violation of the Consumers Legal Remedies Act and unlawful, unfair, fraudulent business acts and practices.

  1. Terri Brannon says:

I have a 2012 Chevy Equinox and have the same excessive oil use problem with no warning that oil was getting low. I just had it changed a couple months before.
I had read a Blog where a gentleman had mentioned the excessive oil use, as I was waiting on line to get the check to pay for my car. The salesman texted me and asked if everything was okay. I told him that I had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach about buying this car because of what I just read about the oil problems. He assured me that it was not 2012 Equinox it was the 2018-19 Equinox that had the problem. Now I have a yard ornament cuz it’s not going anywhere.
GM should step up to the plate and take care of this. There are too many of us that have had problems with our vehicles and one of the judges in a class action suit ruled that the Equinox engine was defective. When you drive it 5 miles or 100,000 miles and whether you own it 5 days for 5 years or 10 years it doesn’t change the fact that the engine is defective and will eventually break down. Defective is defective no ifs ands or buts about it. They need to fix what they’ve done. They’ve known about it all along and when I bought my used Equinox the dealership knew about it but they lied to me and they’re still lying. They want me to bring my car in which doesn’t run, and trade straight across which wont be much for a pos that does not run and needs a new engine. That is unacceptable. I am livid. I spent the last twelve thousand I had on the car and I wish I’d bought a horse instead. I cannot afford another car… they’re going to have to fix this one and make it right. I’m sick of Shady car salesmen who think they can get one over on you. They are the lowest humans on the face of the Earth. Please contact me with any information that you may have concerning the 2012 Equinox and how I can make the dealership/Gm& be held accountable.

  2. Gina says:

Do you call a hm service dealer and tell them about this and they just fix it

  3. Santina Cannella says:

To all Chevy equinox owners GM will rebuild your engine for free. They are well aware of the problem. There was a TSB REPORT AENT OUT. WHOEVER IS TELLING YOU ITS YOUR FAULT. CALL GM and get the TSB REPORT. TAKE IT TO RHE DEALER THE DEALERSHIP IS LYING AND WANTS TO MAKE MONEY IFF OF YOU. TURN IN YOUR OnStar and have diagnostic test performed. Make sure to give OnStar your email address they will send the report to you. The dealership cannot argue with OnStar Many many problems with the Equinox’s ECOTEK doesn’t matter. I suggest you put tape over you eco butter and any other buttons but the gear shift. If water gets in them it will fry the electrical system. Gm will not reimburse me for my catalytic convers n oxygen sensors which is another free fix by FM. THAT NOTICE CAME OUT 10/1/2020. My 1 yr warranty was up on 10/18/2020. They owe me $2200. Anyone with a question email me. I know these Equinox’s inside and out. I can tell you from experience. DON’T GIVE ANYONE A JUMP START. YOUR BATTERY WILL BE DEAD AND YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT TO DEALER TO GET THE CHIP REPROGRAMMED THAT’S ANOTHER PROBLEM.

  4. Sandra Borders says:

A few months after I bought the car I had an oil change, now it uses oil. Today I just found out my timming chain jump messing up other parts of the engine. And I will be lucky to pay only $6,000

    1. Santina Cannella says:

No its aTSB REPORT. TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. YOUR ENGINE IS CONSUMING TOO MUCH OIL
A CHEVY DEALERSHIP SHOULD TELL YOU THAT FM US TO PAY FOR A REBUILT ENGINE. I HAD IT DONE AND SO HAS A LOT OF PEOPLE I HAVE ASKED AT SHOPPING CENTERS, WALMART N 7/11.
ALSO YOU SHOULD HAVE RECIEVED AN EMAIL ABOUT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS AND OXYGEN SENSORS. THAT’S ANOTHER PROBLEM.
      THAT CAME OUT ON 10/1/2020

  5. TERESA YATES says:

I have a 2011 Equinox that is burning thru oil and timing chains Id LOVE ton get in this lawsuit i am faced with trying to recoup money by selling it or fix the timing chain again #2!!! my email is teresayates@rocketmail.com PLEASE ADVISE

  6. Ishi T says:

How can I join this lawsuit? Same issues 2015 Chevy EquinoxLT

  7. Sheila Eskue says:

2013 Chev Equinox with this same issue, ran out of oil, went through a big mess lots of time getting run around from GM and from dealership, wound up out of pocket basically had rebuild engine and GM denied assistance.
Car stopped in middle of road once was out of oil..dealership also did not disclose potential issues with Equinox as far as burning oil..Bad situation

  8. George Prewitt says:

I have a 2012 Chevy Equinox that ran out of oil without any warning from check engine or oil light. GM and the dealership where I purchased the car have told me it’s my problem. How can I join a Class Action ?

    1. Lynn Mongeon says:

GM sucks- there is a service bulletin for the Intake Valve seal freezing and another for high oil consumption. 3K repair, spent three hours on the phone with them – no resolution. They basically said my VIN does not apply, complete BS. I also don’t know what to do may have to hire an attorney. Google GM service bulletin #14882- keep an eye out for this so it doesn’t happen to your car.
If anyone know of a class action on this please advise.

  9. Robert Hotaling says:

I own a 2010 Chevy Equinox with the Ecoteck motor.
I can’t get rid of this vehicle or trade it in cause of the motor issue.

    1. Cheis says:

      Just replaced engine $5100

      1. Santina Cannella says:

Excessive oil consumption and GM knows about it. You need your engine rebuilt. It’s a technical service bulletin.
It’s for all Chevy Equinox’s from 2000-2017. I can tell you everything you need to know. If you have OnStar Activate it. It will give you the codes. Keep an eye on your oil if it gets too low your engine will crack.

        1. Hilda Gomez says:

Who do i contact My engine broke the pistons, chain.
Equinox Chevy 2013. Excessive oil consumption and the rattling of the engine.

  10. Valerie says:

How do I join this lawsuit? I purchased a 2LT 2012 Equinox in May of 2012, but Mylink was not in my car as well. Can someone please tell me how I can become a part of this, I feel I was deceived as well.
