Honeywell COVID-19 vaccine mandate class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: A group of current and former Honeywell employees have filed a class action lawsuit against the company.
  • Why: Honeywell is accused of imposing an “unlawful” COVID-19 vaccine mandate on its employees.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Florida federal court.

Honeywell International has imposed an “unlawful” COVID-19 vaccine mandate on its employees and required exempt workers to wear color-coded “identification badges,” a new class action lawsuit alleges.

A group of current and former Honeywell employees claim the company’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate violates the law by allegedly not accommodating workers seeking exemptions based on religious beliefs or disability status.

“The United States Supreme Court has long held that the right to refuse unwanted medical treatment is a fundamental human right,” states the Honeywell class action.

The current and former employees argue Honeywell—which they say enacted its COVID-19 vaccine mandate on or around May of last year—only “superficially” granted exemptions for “sincerely held religious beliefs.”

“Defendant’s exemptions were not exemptions at all, and instead were a means to appear in compliance with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act,” states the Honeywell class action.

Further, the current and former employees claim the exemptions granted by Honeywell were only meant to single out,  “publicly shame,” and segregate workers based upon their “perceived disability status.”

Honeywell allegedly required exempted employees to wear color-coded identification badges

Honeywell is accused of requiring its exempted employees to wear color-coded identification badges to display their vaccination status, adhere to weekly testing, and use separate common areas for bathrooms and lunch breaks.

“Indeed, Defendant’s actions towards Plaintiffs were not intended for safety measures but were, instead, designed to harass and punish Plaintiffs because they requested exemptions,” states the Honeywell class action.

The current and former employees seek to represent a class of all current or former Honeywell workers who, since May 2021, have objected to the company’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate on account of their sincerely held religious beliefs or disability status.

Also in the proposed class are current or former Honeywell employees who were “placed on unpaid administrative leave, discharged, constructively discharged, retaliated against, or resigned, due to their religious beliefs against the COVID-19 vaccine.”

In addition to allegedly violating the Civil Rights Act, Honeywell is accused of violating the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Emergency Use Authorization

Plaintiffs are demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with an award of actual damages for themselves and all Class Members.

Last December, Honeywell agreed to pay $10 million in order to resolve claims from its investors that the company understated the amount of asbestos-related liability it was facing after acquiring Bendix Friction Materials.

The Honeywell vaccine mandate class action lawsuit is Reid, et al. v. Honeywell International, Inc., Case No. 8:22-cv-02210, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

Employed by ABB/Elster/Honeywell for 21 years.
Worked, on sight, through the entire “pandemic” as “critical infrastructure”.
They started insisting that employees return to the office, and I was required to produce medical records to prove vaccination.
    I refused.
