Weis ice cream recall overview:

  • Who: Weis Markets recalled 108 containers of Weis Quality Sea Salt Caramel Ripple Ice Cream.
  • Why: The product may contain undeclared soy and coconut allergens.
  • Where: The Weis ice cream recall is active in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Delaware and West Virginia.

Weis Markets issued a recall for 108 containers of Weis Quality Sea Salt Caramel Ripple Ice Cream as the product may contain undeclared soy and coconut allergens, which can cause life-threatening allergic reactions for some people.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration website published the recall notice Nov. 23. It applies to Weis Quality Sea Salt Caramel Ripple Ice Cream in 48 oz. tubs with a UPC of 041497-01288 and sell-by date of 11/08/23.

Weis initiated the recall when it discovered the ice cream contained soy and coconut and was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of these ingredients.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy or coconut allergens run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the products,” the company says.

Subsequent investigation showed a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging process caused the problem, according to the Weis recall notice.

No illnesses have been reported to date. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Weis ice cream recall says customers may return recalled product for full refund

The recalled ice cream product may have been distributed in 197 Weis Markets’ stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Delaware and West Virginia, the company says.

Customers who purchased the recalled ice cream may return it for a full refund.

In related ice cream recalls, in May, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream voluntarily recalled 2,185 14 oz. pints of its non-dairy frozen dessert “Oat Milk Brown Sugar Chunk” because it may have contained traces of undeclared tree nuts.
