Vaunn medical adult bed rails recall initiated due to entrapment, asphyxia risks

BeyondMedShop recalled more than 100,000 of its Vaunn Medical Adult Bed Rails as the rails post a serious entrapment and asphyxia hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website the recall March 9. It applies to two models of Vaunn Medical Bed Assist Rail adult bed rails, model numbers M876N-AAWH-APVM and M876N-SABK-APVM. About 102,000 rails are being recalled.

According to the bed rails recall, when the rails are attached to an adult’s bed, users can become trapped within the bed rail or between the bed rail and the side of the mattress. 

“This poses a serious entrapment hazard and risk of death by asphyxiation,” the recall states. 

No injuries have been reported so far, the company says. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Stop using product, bed rails recall says

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bed rails and contact BeyondMedShop for a free repair, the recall states. The firm expects the remedy to be available in May 2023.

BeyondMedShop sold the recalled bed rails online at BeyondMedShop.com, Amazon,com, Walmart.com and eBay from Dec. 2018 through Dec. 2022 for between $40 and $80.

In related news, Platinum Health recalled its LumaRail Adult Portable Bed Rails as they pose an entrapment hazard, with the bed rail linked to the death of an 81-year-old man in 2021.
