Capri Sun, Home Run Inn, GM, King’s Hawaiian, 4moms top recalls overview:

  • Who: Capri Sun, Home Run Inn, GM, King’s Hawaiian and 4moms faced recalls for their respective products this week.
  • Why: These top recalls revolve around product safety and possible risk of harm.
  • Where: The recalls are effective nationwide; the 4moms products were also sold in Canada.

A number of popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced top recalls this week for products that may pose potential injury to consumers.

Kraft Heinz recalls Capri Sun due to cleaning solution contamination

On Aug. 12, parent company Kraft Heinz issued a recall for 5,760 cases of Capri Sun Wild Cherry juice blend drinks.

Following consumers complaints about the Capri Sun products’ taste, Kraft Heinz quickly realized that a diluted cleaning solution had mistakenly gotten into the production line.

The company is actively working to remove potentially impacted products from circulation and encourages customers who purchased the Capri Sun drinks, which have a “Best When Used By” date of June 25, 2023, to return them to the store where they were purchased.

Home Run Inn pizzas recalled due to metal contamination

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) recently posted a recall notice for Home Run Inn pizzas.

The Chicago’s Premium Pizzeria Deluxe Sausage Classic Pizza products were produced June 6, come in 33.5-ounce cartons and have a best-by date of Dec. 3, 2022. The FSIS says several consumers complained about finding metal in the pizza.

There have been no injuries reported so far, but the FSIS advises consumers to contact their health providers if they are concerned they may have suffered an injury or illness from the pizza. Distributors have also been urged to stop selling the recalled pizza product.

Thousands of various GM vehicles recalled due to seat belt defect

In the largest of our top recalls of the week, GM recalled more than 480,000 vehicles with third-row seats as the seat belts may be faulty. Affected vehicles include certain 2021-2022 Cadillac Escalades, Escalade ESVs, Chevrolet Suburbans, Tahoes, GMC Yukons and Yukon XLs.

The recall is a result of improper rivet assembly on the seat belt buckle, which may not properly restrain an occupant, increasing the risk of injury during a crash. GM became aware of the issue in May when a dealership received a customer report of a third-row seat belt buckle assembly that separated in a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban.

Consumers with affected vehicles can bring them to dealers for an inspection and seat belt buckle replacement free of charge, according to the recall notice.

King’s Hawaiian recalls pretzel products due to bacterial contamination

On Aug. 11, King’s Hawaiian announced on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website that it voluntarily recalled its pretzel slider buns, pretzel hamburger buns and pretzel bites products.

The products contain a recalled Lyons Magnus product. The Lyons Magnus products were recalled due to the potential for microbial contamination from the organisms cronobacter sakazakii and clostridium botulinum, which can cause severe food poisoning.

While there are no illnesses associated with the pretzels and no pathogens have been found, King’s Hawaiian decided to recall the product out of an abundance of caution, according to the recall notice.

Consumers who have purchased any of the King’s Hawaiian pretzel products should dispose of them immediately.

4moms recalls rockers and swings due to entanglement risks

4mom recalled 2 million version 1.0 through 4.0 MamaRoo Baby Swings and hundreds of thousands of RockaRoo Baby Rockers due to entanglement and strangulation risks.

The restraint straps of the swings and rockers can dangle below the seat, which becomes a hazard for crawling infants. 4moms has already received reports of one injury of a 10-month-old infant and one death of another 10-month-old infant associated with the MamaRoo swing. No reports have been made related to the RockaRoo rockers.

4moms instructed consumers with crawling infants to stop using the recalled swings and rockers and place them where they cannot be accessed.
