  • Why: The top recalls involve product safety and possible risk of harm.
  • Where: The recalls are effective in the United States.

Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced recalls last week for products that may pose a risk of injury to consumers. Here are Top Class Actions’ top recalls for the week of Nov. 20.

Eye drops sold at various pharmacy stores are recalled

Kilitch Healthcare India Limited initiated a recall of certain eye drops, marketed under popular brands such as Rite Aid, CVS, Target, Walmart, Rugby, Velocity and Leaderbrands. This recall follows an investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which uncovered unsanitary conditions that pose a potential risk of eye infections or harm to consumers. The FDA had issued a warning a week prior, advising consumers to refrain from using the affected eye drops.

The recalled eye drops, bearing brand names like CVS Health, Equate (Walmart), Leader (Cardinal Health), Rite Aid, Rugby (Cardinal Health), Target Up & Up and Velocity Pharma, are intended to be sterile. The recall notice emphasizes the heightened risk of harm associated with ophthalmic drug products, as they bypass some of the body’s natural defenses. All lots of the recalled eye drops, with expiration dates ranging from November 2023 to September 2025, are affected.

While Kilitch Healthcare India Limited has not received reports of adverse effects related to the recall, the company urges consumers to return the affected products to the place of purchase.

iMOONZZZ children’s nightgowns recalled

iMOONZZZ, a China-based brand, issued a recall for approximately 13,300 children’s nightgowns, exclusively available on Amazon, due to concerns about their failure to meet flammability standards for children’s sleepwear.

Consumers are advised to promptly remove the recalled nightgowns from children’s use. To obtain a full refund, individuals should cut the garment in half, capture a photo and email it to iMOONZZZ, then dispose of the nightgown. Upon receiving the photo, the company will issue the consumer a complete refund of the purchase price, as specified in the children’s nightgown recall notice.

These recalled children’s nightgowns, available exclusively on Amazon from March to June 2023, sold for between $20 and $29. The products include various styles, colors and fabric compositions, such as long vintage soft cotton sleepwear, full-length nightdresses and winter soft fleece long-sleeve sleepwear items for girls.

Mercedes-Benz recalls various 2019-2021 model year vehicles

Mercedes-Benz issued a recall affecting 42,742 vehicles from the model years 2019-2021, including A-Class, CLA, GLA and GLB models. The recall stems from the absence of a brake inspection gauge for the rear axle brake pads and the omission of standard usage information in the owner’s manuals. Specifically, the affected vehicles are:

  • 22,434 of the 2019-2020 Mercedes-Benz A 2020s
  • 8,952 of the 2020 CLA 250s
  • 478 of the 2021 GLA 250s
  • 9,881 of the 2020 GLB 250s
  • 159 of the 2020 AMG A 35s
  • 147 of the 2020 AMG CLA 45s
  • 691 of the 2020 AMG CLA 691s

The recall says the front brake pads are equipped with a sensor triggering a “check brake pads” warning. Mercedes-Benz’s investigation indicates that, due to force distribution, the front brake pads tend to wear down before the rear brake pads. While the warning light will only extinguish upon pad replacement, internal vehicle tests confirm that, even with fully worn rear brake pads, the affected vehicles still meet legal performance requirements for stopping distance.

To address this issue, Mercedes-Benz dealerships will install an inspection gauge and provide a supplement to the owner’s manual.

Polaris and Textron Specialized Vehicles recall various off-road vehicles

Polaris is recalling approximately 1,025 model year 2023 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 Northstar and XP 1000 Northstar Crew off-road vehicles, with an additional 40 units in Canada. The recall is related to an improperly installed center brake line that may cause the rear brake circuit to remain pressurized during operation, leading to brake overheating and reduced performance and posing a potential fire and crash hazard. While Polaris has received one report of a fire and three reports of kinked brake lines, no crashes or injuries have been reported. Consumers are urged to cease using the recalled vehicles and contact Polaris or an authorized dealer for a free inspection and potential repair.

In a separate announcement, Textron Specialized Vehicles issued two recalls concerning specific models.

The first recall involves certain Electric Powered E-Z-GO ELiTE Express L6, ELiTE Express S6 PTV and Tracker OX EV vehicles due to concerns that the internal motor wiring could become damaged over time, resulting in unintentional vehicle movement under specific conditions. This recall affects approximately 1,660 vehicles in the United States, 60 in Canada and 20 in Mexico.

The second Textron recall pertains to model year 2022-2023 Arctic Cat Prowler Pro/Pro Crew and Tracker Off Road 800SX/800SX Crew Side-by-Side Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles. The recall, which covers around 6,800 vehicles in the United States and 700 in Canada, addresses the potential for the vehicles to move when on an incline and in park. Textron has not received any reports of injuries related to either recall.
