Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced top recalls last week for products that may pose injury to consumers.

Whole Foods salad recall announced due to undeclared milk, egg

Braga Fresh recently announced a recall of a specific batch of 365 by Whole Foods Market Organic Asian Inspired Chopped Salad Kits due to the presence of undeclared milk and egg ingredients.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website published the recall notice July 12. The affected product bears the UPC code 9948246932 and has a best-by date of July 16, 2023.

The salad kits contain mistakenly formulated condiment ingredients, leading to the omission of milk and egg on the product label. This poses a potential health risk to individuals who are allergic or highly sensitive to milk or egg as consuming the product could trigger severe or even life-threatening allergic reactions.

There have been no reported cases of illnesses or allergic reactions related to this specific batch. Consumers who purchased the recalled product should dispose of it immediately.

Outshine recalls strawberry fruit bars due to undeclared milk allergen

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream issued a recall for certain batches of Outshine No Sugar Added Strawberry Fruit Bars due to a potential undeclared milk allergen.

The FDA website published the July 17. The affected products come in six-count packages with batch numbers LLA317822 and LLA317922 and a best-buy date of Sept. 30, 2024.

The undeclared milk poses a serious health risk to individuals with milk allergies or extreme sensitivity. There have been no reported illnesses or injuries related to this issue; however, Dreyer’s advises customers with a milk allergy to avoid consuming the product to prevent any potential life-threatening allergic reactions.

The company suspects a malfunctioning valve during the production process might have allowed trace amounts of milk to contaminate the fruit bars. Dreyer’s distributed the affected products to various states, including Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana.

ECR International gas-fired boiler recalled due to carbon monoxide risk

ECR International announced a recall July 13 for more than 1,700 gas-fired hot water residential boilers due to a potential safety issue that could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.

The company sold the affected boilers under various brand names, including Dunkirk, Utica Boilers, Utica Heating, Pennco, Green Mountain and Columbia. They have specific model numbers, including DXL-K, MGB-K, UH15B-K, 15B-K, GMGW-K or MCB-K.

ECR recalled the residential boilers because they may be missing their flue inspection cover plate, which could expose users to combustion flue gasses and potential carbon monoxide poisoning. There have been no reported incidents related to this issue. ECR is offering a free inspection and repair service, including the installation of the missing inspection cover plate, to address the problem.

The company mainly distributed the boilers through wholesale distributors in the Midwest and Northeast between December 2022 and May 2023 with prices ranging from $2,000 to $4,000.

Frigidaire recalls Gas Laundry Center due to fire risk.

Electrolux Group issued a recall July 13 for approximately 13,000 units of Frigidaire Gas Laundry Center products due to a safety defect in the dryer, which could potentially lead to fires. The affected models are FFLG4033QW and FFLG4033QT.

The safety concern arises from a problem with the felt seal on the dryer drum, which can be folded inward, leading to lint accumulation and posing a fire hazard. Electrolux received reports of 23 fires caused by this issue, with one incident involving smoke inhalation injury.

To address the problem, Electrolux advises consumers to immediately stop using the Frigidaire Gas Laundry Center and contact the company for a free inspection, repair and lint removal service. The washer component of the laundry center is not affected and can still be used safely.

Suya Slice ready-to-eat beef jerky recalled due to lack of federal inspection

Suya Slice LLC initiated a product recall for more than 400 pounds of ready-to-eat beef products in the United States. The recall, published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Food Safety and Inspection Service July 14, is due to a lack of federal inspection of the products.

The recalled products are packaged in 1.5-ounce plastic resealable bags labeled as “Suya Slice Kilishi Beef Jerky” and 5-ounce plastic resealable bags labeled as “Suya Slice Suya.”

The products may have been manufactured without the proper USDA mark of inspection. While there have been no reported adverse reactions related to their consumption, Suya Slice LLC took preemptive action by recalling the products.

Consumers who have purchased these products are strongly advised not to consume them and should either dispose of the items or return them to the place of purchase.
