Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced top recalls last week for products that may pose injury to consumers.
Cipla recalls albuterol inhalers due to inhaler defect
Pharmaceutical company Cipla announced a recall of six batches of albuterol inhalers due to a potential safety issue. The recall was prompted by a consumer complaint regarding a leak observed in the inhaler valve.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration published the recall notice July 6. It includes Albuterol Sulfate Inhalation Aerosol, 90 mcg, manufactured in November 2021.
The inhalers may fail to deliver the necessary dose of medication, which could be life-threatening for individuals relying on them to alleviate acute asthma symptoms, such as wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath, according to the recall notice.
There have been no reports of adverse events associated with the recalled inhalers thus far. Consumers should immediately stop using them and either return them to the place of purchase or safely dispose of them, the recall notice states.
VRURC portable chargers recalled due to fire risk
VRURC announced a recall of around 190,000 portable chargers following an incident where one charger caught fire during a commercial flight.
The recall notice was published on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website July 6. It specifically affects VRURC portable chargers with model number OD-B7, which include built-in cables and wall plugs.
Customers who own the recalled portable chargers, which VRURC exclusively sold on amazon.com from July 2021 to May 2023 at prices ranging from $30 to $40, should stop using them immediately, the recall notice states. VRURC is offering a free replacement product to affected consumers.
Woom Bikes childrens’ bikes recalled due to detachment risk
Woom Bikes announced a recall of more than 84,000 kids’ bikes due to safety concerns. The recall includes Woom Original 2018-2021 model bikes sold in the United States, as well as a smaller number sold in Canada.
The stem and handlebar on these bikes can potentially detach when in use, posing a risk of injury. According to the recall notice, there have been 77 reports of the handlebar stem detaching or loosening, resulting in 19 reported injuries such as cuts, bruises and abrasions.
To ensure the safety of customers, Woom Bikes advises those who own the affected bicycles to immediately stop using them. The company is reaching out directly to known purchasers and providing them with a free repair kit.
Woom sold the bikes between September 2018 and March 2022 through various channels, including woom.com, amazon.com and select local bicycle stores nationwide, with prices ranging from $200 to $530.
Husqvarna initiates recall for snow blowers due to injury risk
Husqvarna announced a recall of more than 7,000 snow blowers in the United States and Canada due to a safety concern. The recall applies to Husqvarna-branded gas-powered residential 300 Series Snow Blowers with model numbers ST 324, ST 327 and ST 330.
The snow blowers may unexpectedly shift into drive mode, which can pose a risk of injury if they collide with the user, the recall notice states. Husqvarna received 22 reports of the auger pulley bolt loosening, causing the drive to engage unexpectedly. No injuries have been reported.
Husqvarna advised owners of the affected snow blowers to immediately stop using them and contact an authorized Husqvarna Professional Products dealer for a free repair. It sold the snow blowers between July 2022 and February 2023 at authorized Husqvarna dealers, as well as various hardware stores nationwide and online at husqvarna.com. The prices ranged from $1,350 to $1,800.
Mercedes-Benz recalls C300, AMG C43 vehicles due to defect
Mercedes-Benz initiated a recall of more than 8,100 C300 and AMG C43 sedans due to a potential defect that can cause a loss of drive power. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website published the recall July 5. It applies to select 2022-2023 C300 and 2023 AMG C43 vehicles.
There is a possible issue with the transmission wiring harness in these vehicles, the recall notice states.The harness may have an incorrect length, which could lead to damage and result in a loss of drive power. A loss of power increases the risk of a potential crash.
To address the concern, Mercedes-Benz dealers will inspect the transmission wiring harness routing and make any necessary repairs at no cost to the vehicle owners. The company aims to begin mailing owner notification letters on Aug. 29, 2023.
