Major frozen fruit recall affects several popular grocers

On June 21, SunOpta Inc. announced its subsidiary, Sunrise Growers Inc., issued a voluntary recall of specific frozen fruit products linked to pineapple. The recalled products include fruit medleys, pineapple chunks, strawberries, blackberries, cherries and mangoes distributed by a variety of retailers.

The products may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes , an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. To date, there have been no illnesses associated with the recall.

Johsonville recalls pork sausage links due to plastic contamination

Johnsonville LLC issued a recall for more than 42,000 pounds of ready-to-eat pork sausage links, which may contain black plastic fibers that could pose an injury if consumed. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website published the recall June 15.

The recall involves 14-ounce vacuum-packed packages of Johnsonville Beddar with Cheddar Smoked Sausage links made with 100% premium pork with a best-by date of July 7, 2023. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the product so far, according to the recall notice.

Consumers who purchased the Johnsonville sausage links should not consume them and should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

TJX recalls Haining Degao Benches because of fall hazard

On June 8, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website published a recall for 11,000 TJX Haining Degao benches. The benches pose a fall hazard, with multiple consumers hurting themselves while sitting on collapsing benches in-store, according to the recall notice.

The legs can break or detach from the benches when a consumer sits on it, posing an injury hazard, the recall states. TJX received 21 reports of the legs breaking or detaching from the bench, including 17 reports of injuries, including bruises, scratches and back strains.

This recall involves benches with a cushion top and four wooden legs that screw into the bench. The cushion top was sold in navy, gray, cream, white and yellow. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled benches and contact TJX for instructions on how to dispose of them to receive a full refund, according to the recall notice.

Armstrong Air and Air Ease gas furnaces recalled due to CO poisoning risk

Allied Air Enterprises recalled more than 9,000 gas furnaces as they pose a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. According to the recall, a component inside the furnace was improperly assembled, causing the furnace to produce high levels of carbon monoxide (CO) under certain operating conditions, posing a risk of CO poisoning to the user.

There have been no incidents of CO poisoning reported so far; however, Allied Air Enterprises is contacting all known distributors and dealers, who will contact consumers who purchased the recalled units. Consumers with the recalled gas furnace can also contact Allied Air Enterprises to schedule a free in-home repair by an authorized technician, according to the notice.

Marie Callender’s recalls shepherd pies because of plastic contamination

Conagra Brands has issued a recall for about 2,717 pounds of frozen Marie Callender’s beef shepherd’s pie products. The products are packaged in 4.21-pound cases with lot code 5006306020, best-by date of Feb. 24, 2024 and case code 2113100032.

According to the recall, the frozen beef shepherd’s pie products may be contaminated with clear, flexible plastic. Conagra discovered the problem when it received consumer complaints reporting pieces of plastic in the product.

Conagra shipped the Marie Callender’s shepherd’s pies to retail distribution centers in California, Colorado, Oregon and Utah, which further distributed them nationwide. Consumers who have purchased these products should not consume them, according to the recall notice. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
