Honda recalls 2.5M vehicles due to fuel pump defect

Honda announced a recall affecting more than 2.5 million vehicles due to a fuel pump defect that could prevent vehicles from starting or cause them to shut down while in operation.

The recall includes a wide range of Honda models, including the 2017-2020 Honda Accord Hybrid and Acura NSX; 2018-2019 Honda Clarity PHEV and Fit; 2018-2020 Honda Accord, Civic Coupe, Civic Sedan, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline and Odyssey; and 2018-2020 Acura ILX, MDX, MDX Hybrid, RDX, RLX and TLX. Additionally, the recall affects the 2019-2020 Honda Insight and Passport, along with the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid.

Honda attributes the fuel pump defect to improper molding, which may render some fuel pumps inoperable, according to the recall notice. This defect may cause affected vehicles to either fail to start or stall during operation.

The recall specifies that extended exposure of the impeller surface to production solvent drying could lead to surface cracking, excessive fuel absorption, impeller deformation, interference with the fuel pump body and an inoperable fuel pump.

Although Honda reported 4,042 warranty claims related to the fuel pump issue as of Dec. 12, the company says it has not received any injury reports associated with the recall.

Honda says it will notify owners of affected vehicles by mail before Feb. 5. It is also offering reimbursement for those who have already incurred repair costs. Consumers can reach Honda at (888) 234-2138.

BlendJet recalls 4.8M portable blenders due to breakage, fire risk

BlendJet issued a recall for 4.8 million BlendJet 2 portable blenders, with an additional 117,000 units in Canada, due to concerns the blender blades may break, posing a potential fire hazard as the unit can overheat.

The affected blenders have serial numbers with the first four digits ranging from 5201 to 5542. These serial numbers, along with the phrases “blendjet2” and “The Original Portable Blender,” are located on the bottom of the base, according to the recall notice. BlendJet distributed these blenders through various retailers, including Costco, Walmart, Target and blendjet.com.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled BlendJet blenders and contact the company to receive a free replacement base unit.

Potential plastic contamination leads to TGI Fridays boneless chicken recall

Simmons produced the boneless chicken bites Oct. 3. They feature a lot code of KL3K03 and a best-by date of Dec. 26, 2024, which is indicated on the side of the carton. Additionally, the products bear establishment No. P-20287 within the USDA mark of inspection.

There have been no reported cases of illness or injury associated with the consumption of the affected TGI Fridays Boneless Chicken Bites, according to the recall notice.

Empower Brands issues air fryer recall due to breakage, burn hazards

Empower Brands announced a recall of approximately 319,000 of its air fryer products due to potential safety issues as the U-channel connector, which allows users to combine the two food baskets inside the air fryer, may break during use, posing a burn hazard.

The recall pertains to PowerXL-branded DUAF-10 and DUAF-005 Vortex Dual-Basket Air Fryers, available in either black or cinnamon color and featuring a silver-colored “PowerXL” label on the front of the units.

Consumers should stop using the air fryers immediately and contact Empower Brands directly to facilitate a full product refund, according to the recall notice.

Empower Brands acknowledges 41 reports of the dual-basket air fryers breaking during use, resulting in three reported burn injuries. The company sold these air fryers online and at major retailers, including Target, Walmart and Kohl’s, nationwide from Aug. 2021-Oct. 2023 for $60 to $190.

Hover-1 recalls Helix hoverboards due to fire hazard

Hover-1 issued a recall for 25,000 of its Helix hoverboards, specifically the camouflage and galaxy models, citing a fire hazard associated with their lithium ion batteries.

The recall pertains to hoverboards featuring serial numbers containing 15914, 19203 or 19988 as the fifth digit in the six-digit serial number. The front of the hoverboard bears the “Hover-1” label, while the model “Hover-1 Helix” and serial number are separately printed on labels located on the bottom of the hoverboard.

DGL Group, the company overseeing the recall, reported three incidents of fires and five cases where individuals experienced headaches, nausea or coughing from smoke inhalation related to the hoverboards, according to the recall notice.

Customers should stop using the recalled hoverboards immediately and contact Hover-1 to receive instructions on obtaining a free replacement. Consumers can reach DGL Group at (888) 556-8426 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday, or online.
